With 2016 being the 400th anniversary of the year of William Shakespeare's passing, the year has seen an abundance of worldwide events dedicated to The Bard.

To help keep track of major events, and satisfy curiosity about the world of Shakespeare and his plays, Expedia has created an interactive map called the Global Shakespeare Explorer.

Visitors can search the website using three separate filters.

Use "His Life" to find the location of the unassuming London building where the archaeological remains of the 1587 Rose Theatre can be found. A jaunt to Stratford-upon-Avon includes a look at Hall's Croft, which was the home Shakespeare's daughter Susanna Hall and her physician husband Dr. John Hall.

"His Plays" takes you to Kronborg Castle in Helsingor, Denmark, which was the model for Hamlet's home of Elsinore. The castle regularly hosts Shakespeare-themed events and performances. The 1415 Battle of Agincourt in France was a key English triumph of the 100 Years War, as dramatized in HENRY V. The battle site has a museum dedicated to medieval history and the 100 Years War.

"His Legacy" is the most crowded section, dedicated to festivals, monuments and education centers. Here you'll find out about Richmond, Virginia's Bootleg Shakespeare, where a group of actors put together a version of one of Shakespeare's play in one day and perform it free for one night only. Boston's Shakespearean Jazz Show sets The Bard's words to that distinctly American style of music, and visitors to Newcastle marvel at a brickwork portrait of Shakespeare built on the side of a typical urban home.

Users are invited to submit their own location suggestions in order to build an ever-expanding resource for students, theatre lovers and travelers.
