Casting has been announced for the The Dear Boy, the new Dan O'Brien (Key West, Moving Picture) play that is to be the second entry of the Second Stage Theatre Uptown series.  T. Scott Cunningham, Daniel Gerroll, Dan McCabe and Susan Pourfar are all set to appear in the drama.

The Dear Boy will open at Second Stage's McGinn/Cazale Theatre (located above the Promenade Theatre at Broadway and 76th St.) on August 1st and will run through August 27th.  Adam Bock's surreal comedy Swimming in the Shallows, which stars Marshall-Green and Michael Arden, was the first play of the Theatre Uptown series.  The show (which incidentally also features Pourfar in its cast) will close on July 17th.

Directed by Michael John Garcés (The Triple Happiness, Finer Noble Gases), The Dear Boy stars Gerroll as James Flanagan, an English teacher on the verge of retirement who begins to question the life he led and the choices he made after encounters with two students.  Wilson Chin (scenic), Amela Baksic (costume), Ben Stanton (lighting) and Sunil Rajan (sound) comprise The Dear Boy's design team.

Cunningham has appeared on New York stages in Wintertime, Love! Valour! Compassion!, Tartuffe and Pterodactyls.  Gerroll's Broadway credits include Enchanted April, High Society, The Homecoming, and Plenty, and he is the recipient of a 1999 Obie Award for Sustained Excellence.  McCabe received the 2005 Connecticut Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Debut in Kimberly Akimbo at Hartford TheatreWorks; he recently appeared off-Broadway in Trust, his debut.  In addition to Swimming in the Shallows, Pourfar has been seen in The Last Sunday in June.

Last summer (following theatre renovations), Second Stage Theatre Uptown showcased Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's The Mystery Plays (which starred Gavin Creel) and Brooke Berman's The Triple Happiness (which featured Ally Sheedy).  The first series season in 2002 featured Joe Calarco's ...in the absence of spring..., Wendy Kesselman's The Notebook and Hunt Holman's Spanish Girl.

Tickets to The Dear Boy can be purchased by calling (212) 246-4422 or at the Second Stage box office at 307 West 43rd Street. For more information, visit www.SecondStageTheatre.com.
