George Psomas was awarded the title of "Broadway Idol 2007" this past Friday night at the conclusion of the final round of the NYMF Broadway Idol competition at Stitch Bar & Lounge.  Along with the title, Psomas earned his very own solo concert to be produced by Ars Nova.  The date of the Ars Nova concert will be announced at a future time.

The theme for Friday's final round was "Star to Be" and each of the three finalists sang one song from a Broadway show pre-Oklahoma and one song from a Broadway show post-Hair.  Psomas wowed the crowd with "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" from Roberta and "Being Alive" from Company.

Celebrity judges Manoel Felciano, Stephanie D'Abruzzo and Lonny Price were on hand to offer the finalists feedback, but the final decision was left in the hands of the audience vote via Verizon Wireless text message voting.  The other finalists competing for the title were Isabel Santiago and Auri Marcus.

A native of Wyckoff, NJ, Psomas is a 2005 graduate of Muhlenberg College with a double major in Theatre and Business.  His regional credits include: Godspell (Judas), Once Upon A Time in New Jersey (Rocco), Made in America: Irving Berlin (Juan), and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Levi).

In its second year, Broadway Idol is part of the New York Musical Theatre Festival's NYMF @ Nite party series and has taken place over the past three consecutive Friday evenings at Stitch Bar and Lounge (247 W 37th Street). For more information, visit www.nymf.org.
