In honor of Throwback Thursday, BroadwayWorld is celebrating the past with a new series that will take you back in time with some of our favorite vintage video features. That's right- we are opening up the BroadwayWorld Vaults to reminisce on shows are long gone from the Broadway-scene, but have left an indelible mark on the world of theatre as a whole. Today, we bring you a vintage video from 2011. Relive the magic of NEWSIES below!
Newsies ran at New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse before opening on Broadway at the Nederlander Theater in 2012. The original production starred Jeremy Jordan, Andrew Keenan-Bolger, John Dossett, Kara Lindsay and Capathia Jenkins, and featured direction by Jeff Calhoun and Christopher Gattelli. Set in New York City at the turn of the century, NEWSIES is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged 'newsies,' who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys' expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies Newsies from across the city to strike for what's right.
