Final Days to View Exhibition of Architectural Models from the Ancient Americas at The Met Fifth Avenue

Design for Eternity: Architectural Models from the Ancient Americas-an exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art-features small-scale models in stone, ceramic, wood, and metal that were created between the first millennium B.C. and the 16th century and were intended to be placed in the tombs of important individuals.
Ranging from minimalist representations of temples and houses to elaborate architectural complexes populated with figures, the works provide a rare look at ancient American architecture. A highlight is a spectacular wooden model from 1440-1666-on loan from Peru-that depicts part of a pre-Inca palace. Excavated 20 years ago, it has never before been on view in the United States.
