FAB Offers Special Pricing for Shows in The East Village

Fourth Arts Block (FAB) and its 20+ member organizations are offering an alternative to pricey outings with more than 30 performances for $20 or less before March 31st. These event include film showings, tours, theater, burlesque and dance. With the most art per square foot in NYC, East 4th Street continues to produce and present work that is accessible and affordable for everyone to enjoy.

For an even better way to live big for less, FAB has expanded it's FAB Tix programs to run on Saturday afternoons. FAB Tix is a 2-for-1 ticket program styled after TKTS, but for theaters throughout the East Village and Lower East Side. Running Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 1-6PM, FAB Tix offers between 5-15 shows on a weekly basis for prices as low as $6 a ticket. For more information visit www.fabnyc.org.

Are We there Yet? - On view daily until April 22, 2010, FREE
Through the lives of Artemisia Gentileschi, Adélaïde Labille-Guiard, Hannah Höch, Käthe Schmidt Kollwitz, Cindy Sherman and Louise Nevelson K. Savage, using hand-cut Japanese paper and acrylic, traces her own personal journey using references from the work of these groundbreaking artists' - charting their relevance from the 1600s to present day. K. Savage is a community artist who believes in preserving humanity in the arts.

The Adam Wade Show - Monday March 8, $5
The show opens with one of a rotating pool of great storytellers in New York City. They will tell a wonderful, fifteen-minute original story. Then Adam Wade will greet the audience and for the next forty-five minutes he'll tell a few stories from his adolescent years, sing a song or two on the guitar, and play videos and rare home movies. The BTK Band - Monday March 8, pay what you will
NYC's hardest-drinking improvised storytelling rock band. Raconteurs regale the audience with true stories from their lives while music and lyrics are improvised to turn their stories into songs. As if Tom Waits and The Moth delivered a baby from the gaping maw of Chaos. Horse Trade Theater Group - Under St. Mark's.

TOP SECRET: THE BATTLE FOR THE PENTAGON PAPERS - Sunday until March 28, $20
It's 1971 and the nation is at war. The intractable conflict escalates in Vietnam while here at home the battle for public opinion rages. A federal court blocks The New York Times from publishing the top-secret history of US involvement in Vietnam. Washington Post publisher Katherine Graham has a single day to decide whether to print these Pentagon Papers. When the Nixon administration closes in and charges treason, the fight for a free press explodes. New York Theatre Workshop.

Palestine - Daily in March, through Saturday, April 03, $20
Najla Saïd was raised in a privileged environment on the Upper West Side. Her father was Palestinian. Her mother is Lebanese. Her best friends growing up were Jewish. PALESTINE is a personal journey from the "toniest private schools", to the "stench of Gaza," through two wars, the horrors of 9/11, encounters with the likes of Yasir Arafat, "cheeky" photographers and, of course, her esteemed family. New York Theater Workshop's Fourth Street Theater.

Elephants on Parade 2010 - Previews Tues March 9, $5, March 10-20, $15
This show features six plays, five world premieres and one New York area premiere, that examine the peculiar difficulties of true communication and connection in the 21st century in a broad spectrum of styles from magical realism to farce to quiet drama. EBE Ensemble.

Duct Tape and a Dream II - March 9th, 10, 14 & 15, $15
Roots and Wings Theatrical is presenting the second installment of their twice-annual Duct Tape and a Dream festival of new works. This spring's show will include four new plays, a new movement piece, songs by DM Salsberg, and an original performance by the RaW Board. All of the plays in the festival are inspired by or themed after the Picasso painting Girl Before a Mirror, making for a diverse range of conflicts and relationships. The Soup Show - March 4-27, $18
New York Neo-Futurists Desiree Burch, Cara Francis & Erica Livingston serve up a cure for what ails you in this Neo-Medicine Show, performing in and around a giant pot of self-made soup. Bottling this soup, as well as a series of elixirs, potions, tonics and products, they heal and reveal the female experience live, honest and in the flesh. New York Neo-Futurists at HERE Arts Center.

Penny's Open Mic - Tuesdays March 9, 16 & 23, $3
Penny's Open Mic invites you and any artist to gather together in a theater to workshop, experiment and share their work 7 minutes. The audience is here to listen and support, there is a back garden for talking and smoking, a bar for drinks, a green room for the performers to prepare before they go on stage. With the help of the many talented artists who grace this stage Pennys Open Mic has become an inspiring atmosphere where people feel free and safe to grow as artists and as people. Hôtel de l'Avenir - March 10- 20 $10-$17
Six strangers find refuge for the night in the city of light. Through the windows of a Parisian hotel, they scan the streets below to guess where each will lead before setting out to meet their future. Each room reveals a private universe of hope, excitement, fear, faith, ambition, failure, fantasy and redemption all the qualities of human spirit that build and sustain a great metropolis. Whatever, Heaven Allows - March 11-14 & 18-21, $20 & $15 (students and seniors)
Known for its radical and reckless theatricality, avant-garde New York troupe Radiohole's newest work is a star-spangled American meta-melodrama inspired by film director Douglas Sirk's 1950s potboilers and Milton's epic Paradise Lost. Performance Space 122

Revolution ?! - March 4-21, $10
Czechoslovak-American Marionette Theatre will probe revolution with stilts and strings in "Revolution!?," a theater spectacle that examines revolutions throughout the history of mankind as a backdrop for the extraordinary peaceful 1989 Velvet Revolution in former Czechoslovakia. A Night of Three Goddesses - March 11-13, $15

Wonder Bread - March 11-28, $10
A comedic fairytale-like odyssey about a farmer's daughter from behind the Iron Curtain. Escaping her poor village in Poland, she flew here first for a vacation and came back to stay. She achieved the secure married life her parents had wanted for her, but realized that it was not what she desired. At 28 she experienced teenage rebellion, rejected her past, tried to reinvent herself over and over, only to realize one truth: there is no hope for happiness without the acceptance of one's roots. Annette - March 12-27, $15
Annette and Oliver, two fragmented characters struggle for survival and understanding in this multi-media dance piece, inspired by choreographer Reginsa Nejman's own experiences teaching in a psychiatric outpatient program. Methodical and meditative movements combined with a deconstructed soundscape will fill the stage creating a dream-like environment and a search for balance accented throughout by a sense of humor. Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind - Every Friday and Saturday, $16
With its ever-changing "menu" of plays, Too Much Light... is an attempt to perform 30 plays in 60 minutes-an original concept by Greg Allen and the Neo-Futurists. The audience is fully part of the act, deciding the order that these plays are performed. Each week, these plays shift as ensemble members add new plays to the existing body of work. Black Maria Film and Video Festival - Saturday, March 13, $8

The Gilded Red Cage - March 13 & 14, $15/$10 (students & seniors)
The Gilded Red Cage is an original production of two dramatic monologues performed in English by Silvester Lavrik and Katarina Morhacova and a hard-hitting exhibit of documentary photos from revolutionary times in former Czechoslovakia. The show tells the hilarious and sexy stories of a woman and a man who were touched by the Velvet Revolution and lived to tell the tale. Cognac - Sunday March 14, FREE

Downtown Clown - Moday March 15, $15/$10 for students
This is the longest running all-clown variety show in the world! Every night is a new show packed with fantastic clown acts performed by New York's top clowns and exciting newcomers. Featuring fun games and prizes! Performs every third Monday of every month. A barrage of clown theatre.

Revealed - Wednesday March 17, $20
Revealed is a cutting-edge burlesque show with a twist. This unique and extra-sultry night of cabaret features the sexiest, most notorious burlesque performers in New York giving you more bang for your buck than any other show in town. Revealed promises more burlesque than you've ever seen before.Born in Brooklyn, Revealed is all grown up and moving to the big city, brought to you by GiGi La Femme and Doc Wasabassco, two of the most respected producers in the burlesque community. Paul Robeson Project 2010 - March 18-21 and 25-28

Two Gentlemen of the Lebowski - March 18- 21 & 24-27, $18

A Voluminous Evening of Brevity - March 22-31
An evening of short plays performed by Dysfunctional Theatre Company. The company's mission is to produce underperformed scripts or to give a new take on "classic" plays of past centuries. All of these works are still considered Dysfunctional; the idea is to encourage the audience to perceive them in a new light and to realize that dysfunction isn't a product of 21st or even 20th century life; it's a product of the human condition. Women-HOOD (La Flaca y La Gorda) - Wed., March 24, FREE

Forbidden Love - March 25th, $20/$18 (seniors & students)
Just as in Blood Wedding, Forbidden Love portraits a powerful society whose members have to struggle to defend their individuality and their deepest desires. Yet Forbidden Love takes us a step farther, suggesting that this struggle continues today as individuals face the tyranny of big media companies, fueled by the might of capitalism. Teatro I.A.T.I.

This Mind the Art Anthology features 3 distinct works: What if?, DIE and Under the Veil. These three work include everything from musical theater, to comedic looks at philosophical, to political performance art. I Want You By My Side - March 27-31, FREE
Lauren, a college freshman, is suddenly confronted with the possibility of being HIV positive. This fear causes her to wake up and appreciate the love she has taken for granted as she realizes how a single bad decision could change her life forever. Teatro I.A.T.I.

Pretty September Day - March 30, FREE
By Alejandro Latorre. This is a play based on a story written by a NYC public school teacher. It is a work of fiction based on actual events that occurred on 9/11. Teatro IATI.

About FAB
In October 2005, Mayor Bloomberg officially designated East 4th Street a Cultural District - one of two in the City - and sold 8 properties to the long time cultural groups for $8. To date, FAB and partners have raised more than $16 million to renovate the cultural facilities and half a million for streetscape improvements.

With 17 performance and multi-media venues, the district already offers one of the most vibrant concentrations of cultural organizations in the city. When the district's cultural plan is complete, space for artists and arts organizations will nearly double.

As the district's leadership organization, FAB is working to preserve and advance the district's dynamic artistic environment by developing the properties into permanent homes for the arts, leading centralized projects that provide a model for sustainable development, directing marketing and promotion efforts, and supporting the capacity of its members.
