In one short month, Wicked: For Good will arrive for all the world to see. BroadwayWorld collected all the information we could about the second film - including who's starring, what viewers can expect, and what will change from stage to screen. Wicked: For Good will hit theaters on November 21, 2025.

Find out what we know about the upcoming movie below and check out our guide to Part One here.

UPDATED: OCTOBER 2025

What is the title of Part Two?

On December 16, 2024 it was officially announced that the second part of the adaptation will be titled Wicked: For Good, a reference to Elphaba and Glinda's duet that is performed in Act 2 of the stage show.

Who's in the cast of Part Two?

The film will feature the same cast as the first, including Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Ariana Grande as Glinda, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Jeff Goldblum as The Wizard, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Ethan Slater as Boq, and Marissa Bode as Nessarose.

Bowen Yang and Bronwyn James are also expected to reprise their roles as Glinda's confidants, Pfannee and ShenShen, as is Keala Settle as Miss Coddle, and Peter Dinklage as Dr. Dillamond. Sharon D. Clarke will also return as the voice of Elphaba’s childhood nanny, Dulcibear.

Tony Award-nominated actor Colman Domingo is set to voice the Cowardly Lion. The character of Dorothy Gale from The Wizard of Oz is confirmed to appear, though no casting has been revealed. In September, it was revealed that her face won't be prominently featured in the film, as she will mostly be seen in shadow or from alternate angles.

Who's directing Wicked: Part Two?

Jon M. Chu directed both parts of the musical adaptation. He previously helmed the acclaimed film adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda's In the Heights. Chu's other directorial credits include Crazy Rich Asians, Now You See Me 2, and Jem and the Holograms.

Who wrote Wicked: Part Two?

Like Part One, the film features a screenplay by musical creators Winnie Holzman and Stephen Schwartz, along with Dana Fox. The movie also features the iconic music by Schwartz, including "Thank Goodness," "As Long As You're Mine," "No Good Deed," and "For Good." The film adaptation of Wicked is being produced by Marc Platt Productions.

In interviews, Stephen Schwartz and director Jon M. Chu have revealed that the second Wicked movie will include two new songs. "The new songs were written because of the demand of the story, not, 'Oh, let's write a new song and stick it in just because," Schwartz said previously. "The storytelling required it, and therefore they were created — the intention was that they were organic and not imposed on the movie."

Film composer John Powell worked alongside Schwartz to write new underscoring for the movies. Schwartz told The Schwartz Scene that he "basically used the existing [Wicked] themes," adding that "John Powell may wind up creating some new themes, but I didn’t." He also confirmed that the two musicians have "consulted closely with one another throughout the process.”

Who designed Wicked: Part Two?

Paul Tazewell designed the costumes for both films. Tazewell was nominated for an Academy Award for his costumes for the 2021 film adaptation of West Side Story. His work has also been seen on screen in NBC's The Wiz LIVE! and Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert. Tazewell served as Costume Designer for the Broadway productions of Summer: the Donna Summer Musical, Hamilton, Ain't Too Proud, Memphis, In the Heights, The Color Purple, Caroline, Or Change, and more.

What is Wicked: Part Two about?

Wicked: For Good, the conclusion of the film adaptation, picks up after the 2024 blockbuster. Elphaba, now demonized as The Wicked Witch of the West, lives in exile, hidden within the Ozian forest while continuing her fight for the freedom of Oz’s silenced Animals and desperately trying to expose the truth she knows about The Wizard.

Meanwhile, Glinda has become the glamorous symbol of Goodness for all of Oz, living at the palace in Emerald City and reveling in the perks of fame and popularity. Under the instruction of Madame Morrible, she is deployed to serve as an effervescent comfort to Oz, reassuring the masses that all is well under the rule of The Wizard.

As Glinda’s stardom expands and she prepares to marry Prince Fiyero in a spectacular Ozian wedding, she is haunted by her separation from Elphaba. She attempts to broker a conciliation between Elphaba and The Wizard, but those efforts will fail, driving Elphaba and Glinda only further apart. The aftershocks will transform Boq and Fiyero forever, and threaten the safety of Elphaba’s sister, Nessarose, when a girl from Kansas comes crashing into all their lives.

As an angry mob rises against the Wicked Witch, Glinda and Elphaba will need to come together one final time. With their singular friendship now the fulcrum of their futures, they will need to truly see each other, with honesty and empathy, if they are to change themselves, and all of Oz, for good.

When did filming begin?

Filming for both movies began on December 7, 2022. The movie was one of the first projects to be filmed at Elstree Studios in the U.K. However, the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike resulted in the production being shut down, despite only 10 days left of shooting. The rest of filming commenced in early 2024, officially wrapping on January 26, 2024.

To refine the final cut of the film, reshoots took place last March with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo to add some new dialogue to the movie's title song, along with new moments featuring a young Glinda.

How long is the film?

The conclusion of the big-screen movie musical will clock in at around 2 hours and 18 minutes, which is a little over 20 minutes less than its predecessor. With this, the total combined runtime for the two films is nearly 5 hours. Like Part One, it has received a PG rating.

According to the official website, the stage version of Wicked runs 2 hours and 45 minutes, including one 15-minute intermission. Director Jon M. Chu previously confirmed several departures from the stage show, including the inclusion of Dorothy Gale and the addition of Glinda's wedding, which no doubt add to the longer runtime.

What will be different from the musical?

Several departures from the stage show have been confirmed, including the addition of Glinda's wedding, which was added as a way to raise the stakes. In the stage show, Fiyero is just referred to as Glinda's "fiancé". “It's life or death for all of them, so a wedding seemed appropriate,” he said, also adding that it further complicates the dynamics between Glinda and Fiyero, as well as Glinda and Elphaba. “It’s harder to forgive certain things in certain scenarios,” he said. “It makes it more complicated.”

Dorothy Gale, the character made famous by Judy Garland in the 1939 film, also shows up in the sequel, bridging the gap between this story and the L. Frank Baum tale. “That intersection is the place that we were first introduced into Oz,” said Chu. "We tread lightly, but try to make more sense of how it impacts our girls and our characters than maybe the show does.”

Stephen Schwartz has written two brand-new songs for the film: “No Place Like Home” performed by Cynthia Erivo's Elphaba, and “The Girl In The Bubble” performed by Ariana Grande as Glinda. Other new material includes an expanded opening and a new version of "Wonderful," now featuring the character of Glinda.

Nessarose's character arc will differ slightly in Part Two, including the moment when her slippers are enchanted with a spell that allows her to walk. In the original show, Nessarose gains the ability to walk without a wheelchair after Elphaba enchants her shoes. In an interview with GoMag, actor Marissa Bode confirmed that Nessarose will instead fly in her wheelchair: “I am so happy with the change, the old narrative was outdated, and I’ll be honest, it was really fun to fly through the air on set. Overall, the shift makes a lot of sense to me, considering ‘everyone deserves a chance to fly.’”

"Winnie [Holzman] and I learned a few things from the PWD community. It was important to them that it was clear that their lives would not be 'solved if they could just walk. And that was certainly never the message of the show, because Nessa’s life is not solved, quite the opposite. But we wanted to be respectful and still find a way to tell our story," Stephen Schwartz told CBN of the change.

Schwartz also revealed that a new character has been added who takes a romantic interest in Nessa, though she doesn't reciprocate. "There's even another guy in there who likes Nessa, but she can't see him. I'm not sure if that's still in the movie, because I haven't seen the final cut. But either way, the point is that we wanted to make it clear that the problem is Nessa's obsession with Boq, not the fact that she's in a wheelchair, which is what leads to the events that unfold."

A younger version of Glinda will also be featured, mirroring the inclusion of young Elphaba in Part One.

The film will not be available to watch on streaming services until a few months after its theatrical release. Since it is from Universal Pictures, the film will most likely eventually be available to stream on Peacock.
