Sir Elton John took to Instgram in response to comments made by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana in the Italian magazine Panorama on their views against in-vitro fertilization.

Some of the comments that particularly infuriated Sir Elton was "No chemical children: life has a natural course, there are things." And the reference made by the designers of "synthetic" children born from "rented" wombs. Sir Elton is the father of two children with husband David Furnish, through IVF.

Sir John called for a boycott of the designers' fashions in response to their statements saying, "How dare you refer to my beautiful children as 'synthetic.' And shame on you for wagging your judgmental little fingers at IVF - a miracle that has allowed legions of loving people, both straight and gay, to fulfill their dream of having children. Your archaic thinking is out of step with the times, just like your fashions. I shall never wear Dolce & Gabbana ever again. #BoycottDolceGabbana."

CNN reported that #BoycottDolceGabbana had been used over 14,000 on Twitter including supporters like Ricky Martin, Al Roker and Courtney Love.

Gabbana later issued a statement in response, saying they did not intend to judge how others chose to live their lives. "We firmly believe in democracy and the fundamental principle of freedom of expression that upholds it. We talked about our way of seeing reality, but it was never our intention to judge other people's choices."

Dolce also defended his views saying, "I'm Sicilian and I grew up in a traditional family, made up of a mother, a father and children. I am very well aware of the fact that there are other types of families and they are as legitimate as the one I've known. But in my personal experience, family had a different configuration....I was talking about my personal view, without judging other people's choices and decisions."

In hindsight it is easy to defend freedom of speech, your own view point, etc... But as support for #BoycottDolceGabbana grows, one has to wonder if too much damage is already done?
