The first season of the cult hit television miniseries "Slings & Arrows" co-created by THE DROWSY CHAPERONE's Tony Award® winning creators Bob Martin and Don McKellar will be released on DVD today by Acorn Media.

"Slings & Arrows," the six-episode comic drama about the life of a Canadian theatre festival that has parallels to Ontario's Stratford Festival airs on the Sundance Channel in the U.S. and on Showcase in its native Canada and has received positive reviews from television critics. Now in its second season, with another season scheduled to run, Acorn plans to release "Slings & Arrows," Season 2 in Fall 2006.

Starring Paul Gross (Due South, Tales of the City), Rachel McAdams (The Family Stone, The Notebook), and Stephen Ouimette (Mentor), "Slings & Arrows" follows the highs and lows of a Shakespearean theatre company in the Canadian hinterlands. Geoffrey Tenant (Paul Gross) returns to the New Burbage Theatre Festival where previously he had experienced his greatest theatrical triumphs and career-ending meltdown. Tennant finds himself filling the gap as Interim Artistic Director following the sudden death of his former mentor Oliver (Stephen Ouimette). With a production of Hamlet as the central plot line in Season 1, there are theatre jokes aplenty and something of a surprise lurking backstage that will test the director's ever-fragile sanity. This darkly comic Canadian drama intelligently pokes fun at the excesses of actors, for whom—measure for measure—art and ego are everything. Further adding to the troupe's many woes are the festival's corporate suits, who'd like to see the theatre turned into a Shakespearean-styled theme park. DVD bonus features include bloopers, deleted and extended scenes, production notes, and cast filmographies.

THE DROWSY CHAPERONE received five 2005-2006 Tony Award® awards including Featured Actress (Beth Leavel), Best Book (Bob Martin and Don McKellar), Original Score (Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison), Costume Design (Gregg Barnes), and Scenic Design (David Gallo).

THE DROWSY CHAPERONE won Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Musical, Outstanding Book of a Musical (Bob Martin and Don McKellar), Outstanding Music (Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison), Outstanding Lyrics (Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison), Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical (Beth Leavel), Outstanding Costume Design (Gregg Barnes), Outstanding Set Design of a Musical (David Gallo). The show also won the 2005-2006 New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best Musical and four 2005-2006 Outer Critic's Circle Awards including Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical for Beth Leavel, Outstanding New Score, Outstanding Set Design and Outstanding Costume Design.

THE DROWSY CHAPERONE is produced by Kevin McCollum, Roy Miller, Boyett Ostar, Stephanie McClelland, Barbara Freitag, and Jill Furman.
