Discovery Festival SUNAANA Announces New Artists for March

Portland, Maine's newest, most exciting discovery event-food, music, beer, art-has announced a slew of exciting new artists. Sunaana's upcoming second edition, which will see the festival expand to two days (Friday/Saturday March 2-3 in Brick South on Thompson's Point), will feature Philly band Bel Heir and Icelandic artist Ceasetone as well as local, Maine-based artists including Jeremiah Freed and King Kyote. Ceasetone's place on the lineup comes from an inspiring trip that Sunaana's founders recently took to Iceland Airwaves-last year, Icelandic band Mammút (whose newest album Kinder Versions was released last summer via Bella Union) was among Sunaana's highlights. More artist announcements, both international and local, are expected; a list of artists announced to date is below.
Sunaana is also collaborating with the highly experienced and knowledgeable staff at Bissell Brothers Brewing to curate a robust out-of-state craft beer lineup. Throughout the festival, attendees can enjoy food, music, beer, and art across the street from the Bissell Bros tap room in the newly restored Brick South venue on Thompson's Point. For 2018, the fest is also collaborating with other members of the community to bring Sunaana performances to a small number of additional sites nearby.Bands will perform on both Friday night and all day Saturday. Sunaana tickets are available now and can be purchased here; there will also be opportunities to enjoy food, beverage and music on Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday.

About Sunaana
Welcome to Sunaana. A music and craft beer festival locked deep in New England's unrelenting winter. It's a multi-day party that brings people together to celebrate the cold by embracing the new. Proudly held in Brick South on Thompson's Point in Portland, Maine.
Inuit for "what is it," the word sunaana was chosen as the event's namesake to elicit feelings of discovery among attendees. Musical performances are curated in a manner to ensure that listeners hear something they never have before. Immersive visualizations and performance art flutter and pop throughout the primary venue of Brick South, and craft beers from across the country are thoughtfully selected and poured.
The long-term vision of Sunaana is to be a community-wide event that embraces all elements of the Portland identity. Year two brings a step in this direction via the inclusion of offsite venues and a growing involvement of creative and passionate contributors.
Thompson's Point is a 30-acre, former railyard that is being transformed into Portland's newest and most dynamic, mixed-use neighborhood. The venue is anchored by two great structures: a renovated historic brick building that will accommodate the indoor portion of the event and an outdoor pavilion that is home to an outdoor ice rink, tubing hill, and outdoor recreation area. As the Sunaana brand grows, Thompson's Point continues to be the creative nucleus, but the festival will ultimately have interconnected hubs and a shared promotional and organizational infrastructure with partnering institutions all over the city, much like Iceland Airwaves.
The great highlight of Sunaana is the rich fabric of collaboration that it produces and leaves as a foundation for expansion, extension, and intensification in subsequent years. Non-profit collaborators include Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority, Portland Trails, the Maine Brewers' Guild, Iceland Airwaves, and Maine Youth Rock Orchestra.
