David Bowie Denies Licensing for HEROES Musical

By:

This morning, BroadwayWorld reported on a musical that was set to debut at the O2 in March 2012. HEROES, which was said to have gained the permission of David Bowie to utilize his music in the show, was to feature a cast of over 30 performers and a live band.

HEROES' producer and writer Deep Singh said "We could not really believe it when they gave us permission. His people had warned us that it was very unlikely that he would be interested and that he had been asked many times before."

Perhaps it was, in fact, too good to be true: David Bowie's official website now denies the news.

This evening, DavidBowie.com relayed a statement that "Neither the David Bowie Organization, nor its co-publishers EMI Music and Chrysalis, has issued a license for this performance at the O2. There are no negotiations pending for a long running musical featuring the music of Mr. Bowie."

Organizations that were reported to benefit from the event include The Orpheus Centre, Youth Music Theatre UK and Albert & Friends Instant Circus.
