Dallas Museum of Art Agrees to Return Illegal Antiquities to Italy

By:

According to the Associated Press, The Dallas Museum of Art has agreed to return six looted antiquities to Italy. The items returned include E"truscan-era kraters - vases - and a pair of bronze shields."

Italy's culture ministry made the announcement today, confirming that Italy will loan the museum a selection of objects from "the Spina necropolis housed at the Ferrara archaeological museum."

The ministry's press office confirmed that no legal action was taken. The museum's director Maxwell Anderson reportedly made contact to return them "after the museum couldn't determine their provenance."

The Dallas Museum of Art is both a responsible steward of cultural heritage and a trusted advocate for the essential place of art in the lives of people locally and around the globe. The DMA is transparent, ethical, and takes informed risks. It promotes research, dialogue, and public participation, helping to reveal the insights of artists from every continent over the last 5,000 years.
