Cultural Council of Palm Beach County to Award Children Arts Camps Scholarships

The Cultural Council of Palm Beach County is coordinating the efforts of 15 arts organizations to donate more than $5,000 in summer camp scholarships to children throughout The Palm Beaches who cannot afford summer arts programs.

The scholarships will be awarded by the cultural organizations directly to the students and their families at a special event held on Friday, June 5 at 4 p.m. at the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County headquarters at 601 Lake Avenue, in Lake Worth.

The Council coordinates the camp scholarship program each year to match cultural organizations with children who want to experience the arts during their summer break. This summer, scholarships were donated by the Boca Raton Museum of Art, FAU Pine Jog Environmental Center, FYCCN/Everglades Youth Conservation Camp, Kids Need More Art (Jupiter/Stuart), Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, Lighthouse ArtCenter, Loggerhead Marinelife Center, Loxahatchee River Center, Maltz Jupiter Theatre, Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens, South Florida Fair's Yesteryear Village, South Florida Science Center and Aquarium and the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County.

"Through the generosity of these organizations, there are opportunities for children to be environmentalists, film directors, ballet dancers, singers, creative writers and junior veterinarians among other things," says Cultural Council President and CEO, Rena Blades. "These are high quality programs put on by world-class arts and cultural groups that keep the arts alive for children of every age all summer."

"From an educational point of view, the camps focused on art and culture help avoid the 'summer brain drain,' while supplying a creative outlet to the children in our community," says Cultural Council Manager of Arts and Cultural Education, Trish Halverson.
