The Obie Award-winning National Asian American Theatre Company (NAATCO), will present the world-premiere of Michael Golamco's play COWBOY V. SAMURAI -- an adaptation of Edmond Rostand's classic romantic comedy, CYRANO de BERGERAC, set in the wilds of Breakneck, Wyoming -- performed by an Asian-American cast, with previews beginning November 4 prior to the official press opening November 8 at the Rattlestick (224 Waverly Place -- west of 7th Ave. at 11th St.) in Manhattan.

COWBOY V. SAMURAI is a contemporary retelling of CYRANO de BERGERAC set in the mythic American West. When a mysterious and beautiful Asian-American woman moves to Breakneck, Wyoming, everyone falls in love with her, the samurai, the cowboy, and especially Travis (COWBOY V. SAMURAI's Cyrano) - the Asian American teacher who doesn't stand a chance. In this romantic comedy love letters are sealed and bound, horses set ablaze and the history of the railroads are deconstructed all the while the hand of the fair maiden is at stake.

Directed by Lloyd Suh, COWBOY V. SAMURAI features a cast led by Joel de la
Fuente (last seen in NAATCO's acclaimed production of IVANOV), C.S. Lee, Hana Moon and Timothy Davis.

The design team for COWBOY V. SAMURAI is Sarah Lambert (set design), Stephen Petrilli (lighting design), and  Elly van Horne (costume design).

COWBOY V. SAMURAI marks the inaugural production in the next phase of
NAATCO's work - the presentation of adaptations of classic works by Asian-American playwrights.

NAATCO was founded in 1989 by Richard Eng and the company's Artistic Director Mia Katigbak. Now in its 16th season, it is one of the country's leading theatre companies providing a stage for the talents of Asian-American theatre artists. Specifically, NAATCO presents classical and contemporary works with all Asian-American casts. Notable productions since 1990 include OTHELLO, a widely acclaimed revival of William Finn's FALSETTOLAND, LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT, THE HOUSE OF BERNARDA ALBA, OUR TOWN, Christopher Fry's A PHOENIX TOO FREQUENT, and YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU. Earlier this season NAATCO presented their critically acclaimed production of IVANOV - called "impressive" by the New York Times, and "compelling" by the Village Voice.

Scheduled through November 27, performances of COWBOY V. SAMURAI run Tuesdays - Saturdays at 7:00pm, and Saturday and Sunday matinees at 3:00pm (with the following exceptions - no matinee on Saturday, November 5, no performance Thursday, November 24, and an added matinee performance on Friday, November 25 at 3:00pm) at the Rattlestick (224 Waverly Place - west of 7th Ave. at 11th Street).
