Full casting, as well as the creative team, has been announced for the upcoming Manhattan Theatre Club production of Brian Friel's Translations, which will begin previews at the Biltmore Theatre on January 4th and open on January 25th, 2007.

Translations will star Niall Buggy (Obie-winner for The Aristocrats) as Hugh, David Costabile (Caroline, or Change) as Manus, Alan Cox (Strange Interlude in the West End) as Owen, Dermot Crowley (Stuff Happens) as Jimmy Jack, Michael FitzGerald (Irish Rep's Philadelphia, Here I Come!) as Doalty, Morgan Hallett (Long Day's Journey Into Night) as Sarah, Geraldine Hughes (Belfast Blues) as Bridget, Susan Lynch (films such as Casa de los Babys) as Maire, Graeme Malcolm (Aida) as Captain Lancey, and Chandler Williams (Rope) as Lieuteant Yolland.

The production will be directed by Tony Award-winner Garry Hynes (The Beauty Queen of Leenane).  Translations is currently running at the McCarter Theatre in Princeton, NJ through October 29th.

Translations, which received its Off-Broadway American premiere at MTC in 1981, is a story of cultural conflict, as the residents of the fictional Irish county of Ballybeg shift languages from Gaelic to English in the 19th century.  "Poignant and moving, Translations depicts the power of language to unite and divide people in a time of cultural imperialism," according to press notes.

Friel's other plays include Faith Healer, Dancing at Lughnasa and Philadelphia, Here I Come.

Francis O'Connor (sets and costumes), Davy Cunningham (lighting), and John Leonard (sound) will comprise the creative team for the show, which will feature original music by Sam Jackson.
