Complete Casting Announced For Ducdame Ensemble's THE CONGRESSWOMEN At FringeNYC

DUCDAME ENSEMBLE has announced complete casting for their world premiere adaptation of THE CONGRESSWOMEN, presented as part of the New York International Fringe Festival - FringeNYC. Directed by Shira Milikowsky, THE CONGRESSWOMEN is based on a play by Aristophanes & adapted by Kelly Strandemo, with the Ducdame Ensemble Company.

As the women of Athens, Brittany Chandler, Jane May, Indika Senanayake, and Kelly Strandemo will lead the female-driven political coup. The government takeover then forces the once-powerful men, played by Thomas DeMarcus (Spamalot, Peter and the Starcatcher Nat'l Tours), Sam Gilroy (Billions, Imposters), and William Wilder, to nervously negotiate their new place in society. Sarah Anne Fernandez, Zander Kirby, Ericka Ross, Eduardo Ruiz, and Rayshaun Sandlin complete the ensemble as a reimagined Greek Chorus.

Music Director is Ericka Ross, with Choreography by Andrew Barret Cox, Costume Design by Ashley Rose Horton, and Quetzali Gonzalez as Assistant Director. Ducdame Ensemble Founding Member, Michael J. Connolly & fellow LAMDA alumna & Pocket Universe President, Alyssa May Gold, serve as THE CONGRESSWOMEN'S producing team.

THE CONGRESSWOMEN (Ecclesiazusae ?κκλησι?ζουσαι) is believed to have first premiered in Greece in 392 BC. Aristophanes' comedy revolves around the shifting dynamics of traditional gender roles, as well as the political & economic differences they represent. Just in time for the 2018 midterm elections, Ducdame Ensemble's hilarious adaptation of this timeless comedy asks, "Who will be left to pick up the pieces from the Battle of the Sexes?"

DUCDAME ENSEMBLE was founded by graduates of the Masters' Degree in Classical Acting program from the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA). The company's inaugural production, a new adaptation of Lope De Vega's Fuente Ovejuna, received a FringeNYC Overall Excellence Award in 2015. Director Shira Milikowsky is also returning to the New York International Fringe Festival, where her production of Mourn the Living Hector, by Paul Cohen, won an Overall Excellence Award in 2008. Milikowsky is an alumna of the Drama League Directing Fellowship, a recipient of the Henry Luce Scholarship & an Associate Lecturer at Harvard University.
