The AP is reporting that Tony Award nominated actress Christina Applegate has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Her publicist, Amy Van Iden released a statement late Saturday night saying the following:

"Christina Applegate was diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer. Benefiting from early detection through a doctor ordered MRI, the cancer is not life threatening. Christina is following the recommended treatment of her doctors and will have a full recovery"

Applegate recently earned a Golden Globe and Emmy nomination for her performance on the television series "Samantha, Who?" where she portrays a woman who wakes from a week long coma to find she remembers nothing about her life. She also has earned an Emmy for her portrayal of Jennifer Aniston's sister on the series "Friends", but is perhaps best known for her first major role as Kelly Bundy in the series "Married With Children."

Applegate made her Broadway debut in the hit musical Sweet Charity. She received a Tony Nomination for playing the title role of Charity Hope Valentine- the optimist but unlucky in love New Yorker. Applegate was able to prove that she could not only act but sing and dance as well. She opened the show at the Al Hirschfeld after recently recovering from a broken foot from the out of town tryout to critical acclaim.

She is currently scheduled with various other celebrities to appear on the one-hour "Stand Up To Cancer" special. The show is scheduled to appear on ABC, NBC and CBS on September 5th.
