By: Eddie Varley Sep. 10, 2009
The incomparable Chita Rivera releases a new solo studio album entitled And Now I Swing on October 13, 2009 from the newly-launched Yellow Sound Label. From classic theater songs to jazz standards, all tracks featured on this new album have received new arrangements recorded by New York's finest musicians, reimagining some of Chita's favorite tunes.
Widely considered as one of the greatest stage actresses of all time, this new album pays homage to Rivera's stage legacy while also displaying her passion for jazz. And Now I Swing features new takes on classic theater songs from shows such as Chicago, Sweet Charity, The Happy Time and The Visit, and revitalizes jazz standards made famous by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, Billie Holiday and Vera Lynn. And Now I Swing reflects the intimate and warm-natured side of Chita that have become mainstays at her numerous concert appearances. Album producer and Yellow Sound Label co-founder Michael Croiter says, "And Now I Swing is a realization of one of Chita's lifelong dreams. We are proud to deliver this recording to both theater fans and music aficionados who enjoy groundbreaking albums such as this."I Won't Dance/Let Me Sing
