Casting Set for Atlantic's Intelligent Design of Jenny Chow

Atlantic Theater Company has announced casting for Rolin Jones' The Intelligent Design of Jenny Chow, the first production of their 20th anniversary season. The show will begin previews on Wednesday, August 31st and officially open on Monday, September 19th for a limited run through Saturday, October 15th.

The New York premiere of the cerebral comedy, which will be directed by Jackson Gay, will feature Michael Cullen (off-Bway: Bug, Cobb), Linda Gehringer (original production of Jenny Chow and A Naked Girl on the Appian Way at South Coast Rep), Julienne Hanzelka Kim (Bway: Metamorphoses, Golden Child), Ryan King (regional productions of Three Days of Rain, This is Our Youth), Matthew Rauch (off-Bway: Hurlyburly, Book of Days) and Eunice Wong (off-Bway: Faust in Love, The House of Bernarda Alba).

In the play, "Jennifer Marcus is just an average American girl who re-engineers obsolete missile components for the U.S. Army from her bedroom.  Afraid to leave her house, yet desperate to find her birth mother in China, she uses her technological genius to devise a new form of human contact," according to production notes. Scenic design is by Takeshi Kata, lighting design by Tyler Micoleau, costume design by Jenny Mannis, sound design by Daniel Baker and original music is by Matthew Suttor.

A 2004 graduate of the Yale School of Drama, Jones received both the American Theatre Critics' Association Elizabeth Osborne Award for an Emerging Artist and Orange County Weekly's 2004 Best New Play Award for The Intelligent Design of Jenny Chow. His play The Jammer won the 2004 Edinburgh Fringe Festival Fringe First Award for Best New Writing prior to a New York International Fringe Festival staging. Jones is currently an NEA/TCG playwright-in-residence at Yale Repertory Theatre and a staff writer for Showtime's new series "Weeds," starring Mary Louise Parker.

In honor of the 20th Anniversary Season (which also includes Harold Pinter's Celebration and The Room, Martin McDonagh's The Lieutenant of Inishmore and Duncan Sheik's Spring Awakening), Atlantic will offer the "Theater for The Price of a Movie" $10 theater ticket in an effort to build young audiences and attract first time theatergoers. Beginning August 24, thirty-three seats at every performance will be available to the general public. Tickets may be reserved in advance by calling 212-691-5919 ext. 126 or may be purchased at the box office (336 West 20th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues) two hours prior to curtain.

The Intelligent Design of Jenny Chow will play Tuesday through Friday at 8, Saturday at 2 & 8 and Sundays at 3 p.m. All tickets are $50.00 and are available by calling Telecharge at 212-239-6200 (Telecharge.com).  Atlantic Theater subscribers can see each of this season's show for $20.  For more information, visit www.atlantictheater.org.
