On Sunday May 1, 2016, to kick off National Hepatitis Awareness month, the Al D. Rodriguez Liver Foundation (ADRLF) will host The Disco Bowl Spring Fling Benefit. The event will be hosted by the Emmy Award-winning television personality, Carson Kressley (Dancing with the Stars, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy); and will feature a disco-inspired musical performance by Broadway's sizzling Discoettes: After Midnight's Carmen Ruby Floyd, Amazing Grace's Harriett D. Foy, and Amazing Grace's Laiona Michelle. The Total Bent's Kenny Brawner will also perform with the Discoettes, including taking the lead on "YMCA."

Attendees will be treated to two hours of Bowling, Sangria, Beer and Bites. To cap off the evening, the Discoettes will perform an electrifying concert created for this event. Brawner will also serve as Musical Director for the event, which will be choreographed by Miquel Edson. An evening of groovy fun and music - for a great cause!

Guests are attended to wear '70s fashion to get truly in the mood. There will also be a silent auction featuring fabulous offerings including - an original poster design by ADRLF's Artist-in-Residence, ALVARO; tickets to shows on Broadway and at BAM; and more.

Hepatitis Awareness Month further allows ADRLF to promote its message to Screen. Vaccinate. Don't Hesitate. ADRLF was founded in memory of dynamic actor/activist Al D. Rodriguez who died from advanced liver cancer in 2008, only six weeks after being diagnosed. In his youth, Al contracted Hepatitis B; a virus that attacks the liver and can cause both acute and chronic disease. People who endure chronic Hepatitis are at higher risk of developing liver damage and liver cancer.

ADRLF, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, provides resources, screenings, as well as educational outreach in conjunction with esteemed health partnerships including: the William F. Ryan Community Health Network, The Actor's Fund/Al Hirschfeld Free Health Clinic, the Callen-Lorde Community Health Center and the New York City Department of Health. All proceeds from the Spring Fundraiser will go toward continuing the mission of the organization, which is to educate people about the serious relationship between chronic infection of the Hepatitis Virus and its association with Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) -- the most common cause of liver cancer. ADRLF is a non-profit organization committed to providing resources, education and information related to the screening, prevention and treatment of the hepatitis virus and liver cancer. From participating in health fares, to co-hosting university and community screenings, and more, ADRLF's outreach work operates year-round. ADRLF is the proud recipient of the William F. Ryan Community Health Network, "Community Health Advocate Award."

In addition, the organization will continue to honor Al D. Rodriguez's legacy by awarding two scholarships, in his name, to deserving performing arts majors from his alma mater.

The Disco Bowl Spring Fling Benefit will take place at Frames Bowling Lounge located at 550 Ninth Avenue @ 40th Street (Port Authority) from 4:30pm - 8:00pm. The two hours of bowling will begin at 5pm. Tickets are $100 (tax deductible) and can be purchased by going here, on the Al D. Rodriguez Liver Foundation's website: http://ow.ly/10nlSK

The ADRLF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in memory of Al D. Rodriguez. We will demonstrate our commitment to Al by: fostering education through links on our website about timely and relevant articles; connecting people to health care resources that do not discriminate based on the inability to pay; strengthening our relationships with performing artists through staged readings and benefit fundraisers; supporting community health organizations that provide Hepatitis screenings; investing in grass roots clinics that provide free or low costs health care to their communities; and providing universal education about antiviral therapies for the Hepatitis virus.
