Harold Prince's production of Leonard Bernstein's Candide will make its return to City Opera Tuesday, April 8, 2008 replacing the previously announced Ragtime.

Last seen at City Opera in 2005, Candide will run for a limited number of fourteen performances through April 20, 2008, with a cast to be announced at a later date. Refunds or exchanges will be available to patrons who have Ragtime as part of their subscription.

Adapted from the Voltaire novel into a musical with book by Hugh Wheeler, with lyrics by Richard Wilbur, and additional lyrics by Leonard Bernstein, John Latouche and Stephen Sondheim, Candide premiered at the Martin Beck Theatre in New York in 1956, and has enjoyed revivals in 1974 and in 1997 at the Broadway Theatre and the George Gershwin Theatre, respectively. The story of a young man embarking on life's adventures, Candide has enjoyed a cult following for its colorful score and songs such as "Glitter and be Gay." The show features choreography by Patricia Birch, set design by Clarke Dunham, costumes by Judith Dolan, lighting by Ken Billington and sound by Abe Jacob.

Single tickets for the City Opera 2007-2008 season go on sale on Monday, August 6.  For questions regarding subscriptions, please call 212-496-0600 or visit www.nycopera.com
