Career Transition For Dancers is proud to announce a gift from the Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet. A portion of each ticket sold for the upcoming spring season (June 2 -15) as well as the winter and spring seasons (08-09) will be donated to CTFD.
Benoit-Swan Pouffer, Artistic Director Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet, stated ""Cedar Lake regards Career Transitions For Dancers as an invaluable service to dance professionals. We are thrilled to be able to contribute support to this organization that for the past two decades continues to expand and provide programs to benefit the dance community."
CTFD's Executive Director Alexander J. Dubé, stated "CTFD's Board of Directors and its more than 3,700 active clients nationwide, are so grateful to Cedar Lake and its Artistic Director Benoit-Swan Pouffer for donating one dollar of each ticket sold during the company's winter and spring 2009 season to benefit the programs and services of CTFD. We treasure our partnership with Benoit-Swan and his dancers for launching this first-ever initiative to provide funding to CTFD for its career counseling programs, services and scholarship fund. We applaud the administration of Cedar Lake and hope that their fellow colleagues other dance companies nationwide--will follow in their footsteps to benefit their most treasured asset their dancers."
Dancers give audiences lasting moments of inspiration, capturing the essence of life through movement. Yet, unlike all other performing artists, dancers must give up their chosen profession often at the height of their careers due to injury or "aging out" by 30. Career Transition For Dancers recognizes the brevity of a dance career, the education that dancers must often postpone or forego, and the extraordinary physical, emotional and financial demands these artists encounter during the various stages of their careers.
Career Transition For Dancers, with offices in New York City and Los Angeles, has helped thousands of professional dancers identify their unique talents in preparation for establishing new careers when dance is no longer an option. Since 1985, they have provided more than 38,000 hours (equivalent to $4 million) of one-on-one career counseling and program services (at no cost) and has awarded millions of dollars in scholarships for education and entrepreneurial grants. CTFD also provides dancers with specialized services that include seminars and workshops, peer support groups, resource centers, a toll-free national hotline, and a National Networking Directory.
Career Transition For Dancers is experiencing tremendous growth, in both its NYC and LA locations, as word of the organization's services spreads from dance companies and conservatories to studios, schools, and individual dancers. While most often serving dancers nearing, or at the end of, their careers, CTFD is working with an increasing number of pre-professionals and students who understand the benefit of planning for the future while actively pursuing their careers in dance. The Caroline & Theodore Newhouse Center for Dancers is at 165 West 46th Street Suite 701 (at Broadway the Actors' Equity Building) NYC. CTFD's phone number is (212) 764-0172, the fax is (212) 764-0343 and in Los Angeles call (323) 549-6660. www.careertransition.org
