CHESS To Premiere in Russia Next May! Moscow Broadway has announced the opening of the first Russian production of the legendary musical Chess, created by Tim Rice, Benny Anderson and Bjorn Ulvaeus. The musical will premiere on a stage of Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre in May 2019 and will move to Moscow to be daily run in MDM Theatre in September. This is going to be the first time when a Russian state academic opera theatre will make a co-production with a Russian commercial theatre company.

The musical will be directed by Lindsay Posner who has already worked with Russian actors on Cinderella. The creative team also includes: Musical Director and Conductor - John Rigby, Scenic Design - Gleb Filshtinsky (Multimedia Direction and Scenography) and Vyacheslav Okunev (Scenography and Costume design), Choreographer - Irina Kashuba, Lighting Design - Alexander Sivaev.

Chess was created in 1984. The plot revolves around two grandmasters from America and the USSR during a chess tournament in the middle of a Cold War between two countries. "The story is full of dramatism and is very relevant nowadays when the cold war is not just history anymore but once again - our new reality", says the founder of Moscow Broadway, Dmitry Bogachev.

Auditions will be held in November. All information about auditions can be found at moscow-broadway.ru/casting.
