The IT Awards (New York Innovative Theatre Awards), the organization dedicated to celebrating Off-Off-Broadway, has announced that starting June 1st, productions from Brooklyn will now be eligible for IT Awards. The 2005-2006 season draws to a close on May 31st 2006.

As promised in February when the IT Awards welcomed productions from Queens, the inclusion of Brooklyn represents another step towards the goal of including all of Off-Off-Broadway. "With nearly a hundred Off-Off-Broadway companies based in Brooklyn we are very excited to be able to recognize this thriving arts community and honor their theatrical contributions and achievements," says Shay Gines, co-founder of the IT Awards.

Sponsored by Back Stage, the 2nd Annual IT Awards Ceremony will take place on September 18th.

"The IT Awards are given annually to honor individuals and organizations who have achieved artistic excellence in Off-Off-Broadway theatre. The New York IT Awards recognizes the unique and essential role Off-Off-Broadway plays in contributing to American and global culture, and believes that publicly recognizing excellence in Off-Off-Broadway theatre will expand audience awareness and appreciation of the full New York theatre experience," state press notes.
