The Brooklyn Book Festival and AT&T announced today that the first ever "AT&T Fan Fave Contest" will take place from September 15-18, 2011, to run simultaneously to the 2011 Brooklyn Book Festival and Bookend Events. Fans of each of the 260 Book Festival authors can vote for their favorite author at www.brooklynbookfestival.org/bbf/attfanfave.

The three authors with the most votes will receive cash prizes to be donated to the literary or literacy charities of their choosing. The first place author will receive $3,500; second place, $2,500; third place, $1,500. Fans may vote for any of the 260 authors participating in the Brooklyn Book Festival. The author with the most fan votes will be announced during the week after the completion of the Festival.

On Sunday, September 18, AT&T will host a display in Borough Hall Plaza featuring smartphones and tablets that Festival attendees may use to vote for their favorite author. Voting ends at 6 p.m. on the 18th.
"We already know that the Brooklyn Book Festival is every fan's fave," Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz said. "Now, thanks to AT&T, Festival fans can reach out and vote for someone. And with 260 authors to choose from, the 2011 Brooklyn Book Festival offers a world of possibilities. Don't forget to vote and watch for the winners!"

"AT&T is proud to sponsor the 'Fan Fave Contest' as a way to honor the Festival's top authors and their favorite charities," said Tom DeVito, vice president and general manager of AT&T in New York and New Jersey. "With an impressive lineup, featuring so many Pulitzer Prize winners and dozens of leading novelists, poets and non-fiction writers, it's easy to see why the Brooklyn Book Festival is one of the city's premier literary events, and we are looking forward to being a part of it. Just as AT&T is committed to helping the borough remain one of the country's great literary capitals, we remain committed to providing Brooklyn customers with the best mobile broadband experience possible."

The Brooklyn Book Festival was started by Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz in 2006. It's now in its sixth year and will again feature outdoor stages at Borough Hall Plaza as well as venues inside historic Borough Hall, St. Francis College and the Brooklyn Historical Society. Programming will include panels and readings on an outdoor main stage facing Borough Hall's historic marble steps.
New this year will be an expanded children's area with authors, workshops, stroller parking and food, and the Festival will also feature special programming for teens and exhibitors that will include bookstores, publishers and literary organizations.
