Spamalot's Christian Borle and Brooklyn Boy's Ari Graynor are this year's recipients of the 60th Annual Clarence Derwent Awards.  Actor's Equity bestows the awards on those who give "the most promising female and male performances on the New York metropolitan scene," with the lucky performers receiving $2,000 each and an engraved crystal trophy.

Borle juggles the roles of
Historian, Not Dead Fred, French Guard, Minstrel and Prince Herbert in Monty Python's Spamalot.  His previous Broadway credits include Thoroughly Modern Millie (in which he replaced Gavin Creel to play opposite girlfriend Sutton Foster), Amour, Footloose and the 2000 revival of Jesus Christ Superstar.  Off-Broadway, Borle has appeared in William Finn's Elegies: A Song Cycle at Lincoln Center and Prodigal at the York Theatre Company.

Graynor recently played the book-groupie Alison in Manhattan Theatre Club's production of Brooklyn Boy, and has also performed off-Broadway in Spanish Girl.  Other credits include
Fall, Into the Woods, Ah, Wilderness! and King Lear.  She has acted on film in Mystic River, Book of Love, Bereft, The Great New Wonderful and Game 6.

The Clarence Derwent Awards are named for the actor and former president of Actor's Equity Association.  Founded in 1944, the Clarence Derwent Award has gone to such Broadway notables as Annette Bening, Kristin Chenoweth, Calista Flockhart, Gene Hackman, Dana Ivey, John Malkovich, Ann Reinking, George C. Scott, Frances Sternhagen, Gene Wilder and James Woods.

Back Stage's Irene Backalenick, The New York Post's Clive Barnes, Betty Corwin (Director of Special Projects for Theatre on Film & Tape Archive of the Lincoln Center Library for the Performing Arts), Michael Kuchwara of the Associated Press, Actors' Equity President Patrick Quinn, Back Stage's David Rosenberg, Michael Sommers of The Star Ledger, The Daily News' Douglas Watt and Carl Harms are on the judges' committee of the Derwent Awards.

Borle and Graynor will be awarded on June 21st at the offices of Actors' Equity Association.
