A number of Broadway performers have signed on to the York Theatre Company's upcoming readings of The Last Smoker in America and Patter for the Floating Lady, both of which will be presented on November 6th beginning at 7:30 PM as part of the Developmental Reading Series.

The readings of the musicals, which features music by Peter Melnick and book and lyrics by Bill Russell/>, will feature Avenue Q's former Gary Coleman, Natalie Venetia Belcon/>, as well as Rachel deBenedet/> (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), David McDonald (Mamma Mia!) and Paul Ianoco.

In The Last Smoker in America, "Joyce, a college professor with a dysfunctional family, can't give up cigarettes, even as anti-smoking laws become more and more Draconian. After running off with the few remaining smoking renegades, she returns home to judgment and mayhem," according to York notes.

Patter for the Floating Lady is based on Steve Martin's one-act play, which concerns the parallels between love and magic.

Sheryl Kaller will direct the readings, which will feature musical direction by Fred Lassen.

The York Theatre Company is located at Saint Peter's Theatre in Citigroup Center at 619 Lexington Avenue.  Visit www.yorktheatre.org for more information.
