Theater for the New City will present Josh and Danny Bacher in The Funniest Show in the World About the History of Comedy Performed by Two Brothers in Less Than Two Hours for Under Twenty Bucks, with previews beginning September 7, prior to an official press opening on September 10 at Theater for the New City (155 1st Avenue).

The show "takes a hysterical, historical joyride tracing comedy from the Stone Age to the present day," according to press notes.  "Written and performed by Josh and Danny Bacher -- self-appointed experts of comedy and versatile comedians who have had the benefit of performing together all their lives -- The Funniest Show...gives the history of comedy a revisionist treatment. Incorporating slapstick, farce, original songs, and general irreverence, the Bacher brothers reveal little-known facts of comedy: Cain and Abel were the first major breakup in show business history; Bacon wrote Shakespeare as Shakespeare ate bacon; The US government has spent years developing top-secret military technology for the international tracking of mimes; and more!"

The Funniest Show... is produced by Crystal Field, co-founder and Artistic Director of Theater for the New City.

Josh and Danny Bacher have won awards in improvised comedy as well as performances at cabarets, benefits, award shows, theater festivals, and educational workshops, to mention a few. After graduating from New Jersey City University, they joined the Off-Broadway experimental troupe the Irondale Ensemble Project, where they performed in such Off-Broadway works as Peter Pan, The Murals of Rockefeller Center, and The Comedy of Errors.  They also created and performed in the national Seussentennial Imagination Tour, produced by Random House.

Performances run September 7-October 1 at Theater for the New City (155 1st Avenue, between 9th and 10th Streets); Thursdays-Saturdays at 8pm; Sundays at 3pm. Tickets are $19. For reservations, call 212-352-3101 or visit www.theatermania.com.
