The Apollo's Amateur Night tradition continued on Wednesday, November 20th with the "Top Dog" competition showcasing some of the finest talents in the area. The Apollo's signature talent show venue has historically ushered in some of the biggest names in show business including Ella Fitzgerald, Stevie Wonder, JAmes Brown, and Michael Jackson.

Wednesday's show featured vocalists, dancers, and instrumentalists. Audience members are the judges for Amateur Night and are permitted to boo performers offstage. Yet, the Top Dog contestants were extraordinary and everyone completed their selection to an appreciative crowd.

With DJ Jess, "Set-it-off man" Joe Gray, comedian Capone, C.P Lacey the "Executioner" and The Apollo Amateur Night Band led by Onree Gill, the Amateur Night is always entertaining and exciting.

A new segment of The Apollo's Amateur Night is the "Breaking Through" segment that brings a performer who has been a You Tube sensation to the stage and invites industry professionals to view their talent. At the "Top Dog" competition, Zephaniah entertained the audience with his song and dance style.

The "Rising Star" award is a weekly feature of Amateur Night. Three talented young female vocalists performed beautifully and the night's winner was Claire Kwon singing Santa Fe.

Although there were very impressive acts, the audience did express their favorites and with cheers and applause selected the night's winners. Beatboxer, Kim-Hyo-Jin from Seoul, Korea took first place with his incredible sound effects talent. In second place was the dance squad, Vintage Quality, who wowed the audience with their vocals and dance style. In third place for the evening was the versatile young violinist, Daniel Davis.

The "Super Top Dog" Amateur Night will be held on Wednesday, November 27th. Sponsored by The Coca-Cola Company, Amateur Night contestants compete to win a total of $10,000.00. To obtain tickets and get more information on The Apollo and Amateur night, visit their web site at www.apollo.org.
