BWW Previews: CLOSETS, A New British Musical Based On The Award-Winning Film

New British musical CLOSETS has announced casting for its premiere production at Hope Mill Theatre this August 14th-23rd.

Sam Retford (Star of Ackley Bridge, Channel 4) Lloyd Daniels (X Factor, Joseph Tour) and Natasha Hamilton (Atomic Kitten and Fat Friends the Musical) will head the cast alongside Sophie Anne- Ellicott and Kim Tatum.

Closets The Musical is a coming of age LGBTQ Pop musical based on the multi-award-winning short film 'Closets', which was sponsored by Attitude Magazine in 2015 and won the IRIS PRIZE Best of British and Youth Award.

A new original musical extravaganza featuring 13 original numbers

It's 1988, 16-year-old Henry is struggling with his sexuality, identity and daily battles with his mother. He goes inside his Closet and unexpectedly time travels to 2018, and meets 16-year-old Ben, living in his bedroom dealing with similar issues today.

Ben and Henry decide to run away from their lives by time travelling in the Closet, taking them on adventures to New York's Stonewall bar in 1969 and beyond. But how long can they run from their lives before their time zones catch up with them?

Featuring uplifting pop musical numbers and contemporary ballads this show is guaranteed to warm everyone's soul.

Lloyd Daniels was the youngest act in the X Factor of 2009. He is from Treharris, in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales. In his first audition, Cheryl Cole described him as "the first person I'm going to say you've got the X Factor to." He finished in fifth place. On 7 December 2009, he performed a homecoming concert outside the St David's Centre in Cardiff, and toured with the X Factor live tour. Most recently Daniels has been performing the leading role of Joseph in the UK tour of Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dream coat.

Sam Retford

Sam Retford was born in Gosford, Australia before moving to England and beginning work as an actor where he soon gained his screen acting debut as Nate in the Hollyoaks spin off Toms Life (2014). Since then, returned to the screen as heartthrob Cory Wilson in the new Channel 4 drama Ackley Bridge (2017).

Natasha Hamilton

Natasha Hamilton is best known for being one third of Atomic Kitten, one of the UK's most internationally successful girl groups of the last 20 years, selling over 20 million records worldwide. Natasha quickly became a highly respected theatre actress. She was later cast in the energetic and mesmerising role of 'Maureen' in the Tony Award winning musical 'Rent'.
Natasha is currently starring alongside Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff in the musical theatre adaptation of Fat Friends playing the fierce and feisty, show-stopping role of Julia Fleshman

The show premiers at Hope Mill Theatre Manchester which is quickly becoming home to high quality musical premiers, with Hair, YANK! and Pippin premiering at the venue before moving to London.
