BWW Interviews: BLAIR GOLDBERG Tackles THE NUTTY FIVE

By:

For the next several weeks Nashville will be filled with a lot of new faces, theater-wise, as the cast, crew and company of The Nutty Professor Musical take up residence at TPAC's James K. Polk Theatre for the show's debut before it takes on Broadway in early 2013. So, in a flagrant display of Southern hospitality-and to show that our mama raised us right-we're devoting a new column to welcoming the newest members of Music City's theaterati to town…

Suffice it to say, we feel even more welcoming after seeing the cast in action at TPAC's rehearsal hall (interesting note: we hosted a party there once!) where they dazzled the assembled media types with their spirited performance of several of the show's best songs, composed by Marvin Hamlisch with lyrics by Rupert Holmes. And since we feel certain you'll be bumping into these newfound Music Citizens all over town in the next month, we think you need to get to know them better.

Today, our spotlight falls on Blair Goldberg, who's a member of The Nutty Professor's extraordinary ensemble. Get to know her here, then when you see her it won't feel quite so intrusive and nosey when you ask her about the time her haltar top came undone (oh, hell: she has haltar top experience! Give the woman the key to the city now, Mayor Dean…she's definitely one of us!)…

What was your first "live onstage" taste of theater? I saw Cats on Broadway at the age of five and was totally enamored.

What is your favorite pre-show ritual? Blasting trashy pop music and dancing to get pumped up!

What's your most memorable "the show must go on" moment? My halter top completely came undone and fell off at curtain call during a production of Grease I did in high school. Let's just say, the entire audience got more than they paid for that day. The show was almost over, but nevertheless, I wanted to run offstage and bury my head in my hands!

What's your dream role? Dot in Sunday in the Park with George or Eva in Evita. Or Fanny in Funny Girl!

So what do you really, really wanna see or do while you're in Nashville? I've never been here, but I'm already totally in love with the city and cannot wait to go line dancing! I've gotta get a good pair of cowboy boots first!

  • Tickets for The Nutty Professor are on sale now at www.tpac.org or by calling the TPAC box office at (615) 782-4040.
