BWW Blog: Meet Christian Whelan of Broadway-Bound FLASHDANCE
The polls are in and Flashdance The Musical is taking America by storm, literally and figuratively!
Hi everybody. My name is Christian Whelan and I'm playing the role of the antagonist strip club owner, CC in this new Broadway Bound Smash Hit. The cast of FLASHDANCE has played 38 performances in 6 cities and the Standing "O's" have been electric, giving new meaning to "Oh..What a feeling!"
This last week the cast and crew loaded in to the intimate and cozy DuPont Theatre in Wilmington, DE. Broadway tours often find new spacial challenges as we load our huge Musical Productions into venues around the country. The fit was a little tight in Wilmington, so a few set pieces needed to be stored outside the loading dock during the performances to keep the backstage automation space clear. It can be a jaw dropping experience to witness the expertise of our crew; the deck & technical Networks wizards assembled to handle this awesome set.
SO, when the weather dropped below freezing this last week, the Chameleon Girls of FLASHDANCE were comically stoic as they attempted to perform on the strip club poles that had just come in to place from the outside climate. (Hold your tongue Ralphy!) It gave a chilling nuance to the Smoking Hot Chameleon Club that few of us had anticipated. In true tour fashion, CC's girls adapted, executed, and goose bumped Pole Choreography and tricks without missing a beat.
Onward to HOT-Lanta and the Fabulous FOX for a week of Georgian delight and Mary Mac Soul filled dinners. (The best soul food and Fried Chicken in Atlanta!) Locals beware....We bring our own Mary Mac! Production Stage Manager, Mary Macleod, calls the shots nightly in this new Hot Musical, playing at the Fabulous FOX in Atlanta, GA playing february 5th thru February 10th.
