BAD IDEAS Comes to Bowery Poetry Club, 9/25

By: Aug. 20, 2010

Brilliant. Amazing. Award-winning. World-renowned.  These are just a few of the superlatives that describe the burlesque stars of New York City. But have you ever wondered what insanity lies beneath all that talent, all that sexiness, all those beautiful outfits, all those clever concepts? In a world that allows performers to do almost anything they want, what will burlesque stars create when given the freedom to do absolutely anything they want?

Find out Saturday, September 25 at 8:00pm, when the Burlesque Mayor of New York City comes to The Bowery for JONNY PORKPIE'S BAD IDEAS.

The structure is simple: In the first half of the night, each performer will present one of the acclaimed burlesque numbers for which she is best known. In the second half, Porkpie has challenged those same performers to bring to life one of the most idiotic notions she has ever voiced in his presence.

For this, the third version of the Bad Ideas show, Porkpie promises an all-new cast with all-new bad ideas. "As always, the first act will be a glorious showcase of the wonders of the modern burlesque, filled with beautiful women performing the brilliant acts which best exemplify their skill, humor, and sexiness," said Porkpie. "The second act will be a fantastic freakin' trainwreck.  In what way? I don't know.  I doubt if the performers themselves know. In fact, there's only one way to find out:  come see the show."

As for the performers, "They're thrilled to be given free reign," explained Porkpie, "A chance to perform completely without restriction. Who knows? Some of the numbers debuting in the second half of this show may well go into their regular rotation. More likely, however, the delightfully stupid acts will never be seen again after this night."

"The Bowery is NYC's original home of the bad idea," said Porkpie. "So there could be no better venue for the Manhattan debut of 'Bad Ideas' than the Bowery Poetry Club." On Saturday, September 25 at 8:00pm, see the best in burlesque embrace their worst instincts in JONNY PORKPIE'S BAD IDEAS.

Jonny Porkpie, self proclaimed "Burlesque Mayor of New York City", is the co-creator and co-star of Pinchbottom Burlesque, the "Best Burlesque" in NYC (New York Magazine & The Village Voice). Pinchbottom was awarded the first-ever "Most Innovative" trophy at the 2007 Burlesque Hall of Fame weekend. Porkpie has hosted, produced, and performed in shows at venues throughout the New York City, including Performance Space 122, The Flea, The Slipper Room, Comix, and more, as well as up and down the East Coast, and as far west The Palms in Las Vegas, NV. His 2009 bid for the mayorship of actual New York City was not successful. His lurid pulp novel, "The Corpse Wore Pasties", is available in trashier bookstores everywhere, including Barnes & Noble.
