'Approachings' Exhibition Begins July 27 at Roscommon Arts Centre
"Approachings", returning to places laden with memory, was inspired by John O'Donohue's poems of the same name. As they return to their home county, Claudia Keegan and Lucy Brennan Shiel have chosen this title for their forthcoming exhibition of paintings and prints, exhibiting for the first time in Roscommon.
For both artists their childhoods are resident and present now in the people that they are. Inspired by their Roscommon roots, their work engages constantly in distilling and weaving those memories into and out of abstraction – an engagement with landscape, memory and history. For some these images will be hard placed within the landscape although the landscape is vital to their making.
Lucy Brennan-Shiel grew up in Curraghroe and went to school in Lanesboro, Co Roscommon. Claudia Keegan grew up in Athleague and went to school in Ballygar. A practicing artist since 1995, Lucy is now UK based mainly living in London. Claudia has been awarded with an honours BA from GMIT where she specialised in printmaking.
