American Theatre Wing Announces Grants to 48 NYC Not-For Profit - Theatre Organizations

he AMERICAN THEATRE WING has announced the New York not-for-profit theatre companies and support organizations receiving grants form ATW this year. $120,000 will be distributed as part of the 47th Annual American Theatre Wing Grants Awards. They will be presented at a luncheon celebration on Friday, December 3rd, 2004 at 12 Noon at Sardi's, 234 West 44th Street when friends and colleagues join the Wing in congratulation these theatrical organizations for their continuing commitment to the quality of theatre and training.

Forty-eight New York City not-for-profit organizations are the recipients of these ATW Grants. New companies being funded this year include: The Flea Theater, LAByrinth Theater Company, The Pearl Theatre Company; and TADA!

The other distinguished Grant recipients are: Abingdon Theatre Company, The Acting Company; AMAS Musical Theatre; ART New York; Atlantic Theater Company; Barrow Group; Cap 21; Cherry Lane Alternative; City Center Encore Series; Classic Stage Company; The Culture Project; The Drama League; The Ensemble Studio Theatre; The Foundry Theatre, Inc.; HB Playwrights Foundation; INTAR-Hispanic American Art Center; Jean Cocteau Repertory; La MaMa E.T.C.; Lark Play Development Center; Lincoln Center Theater; Manhattan Theatre Club; MCC Theater; Mint Theater Company; National Alliance for Musical Theatre; New Dramatists; New Federal Theatre; The New Group; New York Theatre Workshop; Pan Asian Repertory; The Paper Bag Players; Playwrights Horizons; Primary Stages; Public Theater; Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre Company; Roundabout Theatre Company; Second Stage Theatre; Signature Theatre Company; The Talking Band; Thalia Spanish Theatre, Inc.; Theatre by the Blind; Theatre For A New Audience; TheatreWorks/USA; Vineyard Theatre; and The York Theatre Company.

This year's Committee included Theodore Chapin, Dasha Epstein, Sondra Gilman, Shirley Herz, Jeffrey Eric Jenkins (chair), Douglas Leeds, Jo Sullivan Loesser, Enid Nemy, Lloyd Richards and Howard Sherman. The ATW committee also awarded $20,000 scholarships for New York students pursuing theatrical careers.

The American Theatre Wing (Sondra Gilman, Chairman of the Board; Douglas Leeds, President and Howard Sherman, Executive Director) through its many programs remains dedicated to supporting and servicing the community through theatre and building audiences for the future. The expanded 'Working in the Theatre' Seminars continue December 2, 9 & January 13. The Wing, in association with XM Satellite Radio, presents Downstage Center a weekly theatrical interview show, featuring the top artists working in theatre both on and Off-Broadway and around the country. The interviews can be heard weekly on XM 28, On Broadway. The program airs Friday at 6pm, Saturday at noon, Sunday at 7pm and Wednesday at midnight (EST).

Ahead in the new year is the Spring Benefit dinner on Monday, April 11th at Cipriani 42nd Street as well as the continuing of the 'Working in the Theatre' Seminars; Guide To Careers in the Theatre Program; American Theatre Wing Hewes Design Awards and more from Downstage Center.
