October 13th 2010 - The Just A Piano Concert Series presents Broadway's Alton Fitzgerald White in a HOLIDAY BENEFIT for The Lion King's SHANNON TAVAREZ. White's Pianist/Musical Director is DOYLE NEWMYER with Special Guest, The Color Purple's Yolanda Wyns.

Alton White's Broadway credits include leading roles in The Color Purple, Ragtime, Miss Saigon, Smokey Joe's Café and The Who's Tommy.  White originated the role of "Mufasa" in the first national tour of The Lion King. After recently reprising the role in Las Vegas, he currently portrays "Mufasa" on Broadway.

Shannon Tavarez played "Young Nala" in The Lion King on Broadway for seven months before she was diagnosed with AML, which is a rare and aggressive form of leukemia. Since her diagnosis last spring, she has been through extensive chemotherapy and has spent most of her days and nights in the children's ward of a hospital in New York. She is currently in a children's ICU struggling to stabilize so that the doctors can once again focus on treating her cancer.

Lee Summers' Just A Piano SM Concert Series has presented top vocal artists singing to JUST A PIANO since 2006 at New York's most beautifully refurbished venue, the historic Triad Theatre. The list of artists includes Tony Award Winners, Lillias White, Adriane Lenox and LaChanze, 3 Time Grammy Nominee/Tony Winner Melba Moore, Two-time Grammy Winner Caron Wheeler, Grammy Nominee Ryan Shaw, Rhett George from the 2010 Tony Winner for Best Musical, Memphis and many more.
