Altar Boyz, winner of the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Musical Off-Broadway, will celebrate its 1st anniversary on March 1st. To mark the milestone, the show, which runs at Dodgers Stages, is also holding an open call that will be held at Dodger Stages #4 (340 W. 50th Street) on Tuesday, February 28th from 9 am to 5 pm "for all those would-be Justin Timberlakes and Nick Carters."

"A nationwide search has begun for lead singer Matthew," state press notes; Scott Porter recently left the show, while James Royce Edwards (who was previously seen as Luke) now plays the role. Altar Boyz is also seeking future replacements for the roles of Mark, Luke, Juan and Abraham. Casting descriptions follow:

Matthew: 20's; extremely attractive, charismatic lead singer of the Altar Boyz. Sexy, good-spirited guy; big-brother figure to the rest of
the band. Pop belt and pop falsetto up to "A".

Mark: 20's; attractive, sensitive member of the band; a winning, devilish sense of humor beneath the innocent demeanor.

Luke: 20's; attractive, street-wise member of the band; a homeboy who "gives it up" for Christ. An adept break-dancer.

Juan: 20's; attractive; an orphan; thinks he is of Mexican descent but is not sure as he has never met his parents. Endearing, enthusiastic champion of the underdog, as he has always felt like an outsider having been an orphan.

Abraham: 20's; attractive, Jewish member of the band; affable, upbeat; fell into the Altar Boyz by accident.

Actors should prepare 16 bars of a pop song, in the "boy band" style, that shows off range and personality. "Please bring clothes and shoes to move in, in case you are asked to stay and dance."

"Full of sharp parody, sinfully spectacular dancing, and irreverent humor, this spoof about a heavenly guy-group is adored by audiences and critics alike. With an extraordinary mix of side-splitting songs 'convincing enough to be played on MTV,' uncontrollable laughs and lighthearted fun, this award-winning and totally original new musical is 90 minutes of pure delight that's suitable for all ages and will have the whole family laughing and singing along," state press notes for the show, which is directed by Stafford Arima, choreographed by Christopher Gattelli, and features a score by Gary Adler and Michael Patrick Walker, as well as a book by Kevin Del Aquila.

Altar Boyz opens April 12th at ChungMu Art Hall, Seoul, Korea; a national tour (following recent acclaimed engagements in Detroit and Des Moines) kicks off in the fall, playing Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, among other cities.
