Disney Theatrical Productions and Stage Entertainment celebrated the opening of a new production of Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida in Munich, Germany on November 22, 2005. The production will tour markets in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

 

The Broadway production of Aida ended its four and a half year run at the Palace Theatre in September 2004, having received four 2000 Tony Awards and the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.

 

Aida has become a global theatrical success with a 53-city U.S. national and five international productions. Aida recently opened in Seoul, South Korea and received four Korean Musical Awards. A Japanese production by Shiki Theatricals will soon open in Fukuoka following successful runs in Osaka and Kyoto.

 

Worldwide, Aida has been seen by nearly 7 million people and has generated box office receipts in excess of $375 million.

The Grammy Award-winning Original Broadway Cast album sold more than 500,000 copies achieving Gold status.  Albums have been produced in English, Dutch, German and Japanese. The original cast album is available on Buena Vista Records.

 

Aida is currently available for domestic and international license to regional and community professional theatre companies under license from Music Theatre International (www.mtishows.com). The show has been licensed by MTI to over 200 professional and amateur theatres around the country and internationally.
