ActorsNET Mounts IS HE DEAD?

Is He Dead? By Mark Twain, as adapted by David Ives - In 1898 Mark Twain wrote Is He Dead? - a stage comedy involving renowned 19th-century French painter Jean-François Millet. In it, Twain fictionalized the artist as faking his own death to increase the value of his paintings and returning as his own twin sister to reap the rewards. Millet's estate and lawyers blocked the planned London and New York premieres, so Twain set aside his script. It was discovered among his papers in 2002 and playwright David Ives was asked to edit and rewrite the script. Is He Dead? finally appeared on Broadway in 2007, and is being presented by ActorsNET as the opening production of its 23rd season. Cheryl Doyle produces and Joe Doyle directs a stellar cast, starring Nick Pecht as Millet and also starring Matthew Whiteside, John Boccanfuso and Michael Powell as the artist's students and friends. Co-starring (alphabetically) George Agalias, Stacy Danka, Barry Dratch, Marilyn Licciardello, Steve Lobis, Maryalice Rubins-Topoleski, and Joy Woffindin. Stage managed by Julie McMillan. Assistant Stage Manager is Renee Root. Lighting design and operation by Andrena Wishnie. Sound design by Joe Doyle and Christopher D. Root. Produced by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc.
