2nd Annual NY THEATRICAL BELLYDANCE CONFERENCE Held July 6-10
Inspired by strong participant feedback from 2010's premier event, Ranya Renee and Anasma are opening the curtains to a second annual, large-scale New York Theatrical Bellydance Conference in Manhattan July 6-10.
Over the course of four days of intensive instruction, students will participate in workshops with 20 teachers whose styles run the gamut of the bellydance genre, from modern Egyptian to Hip-Hop Bellydance fusion and Gothic. Workshops will take place at New York's Ripley Grier Studios, and share space with artisans and costume vendors selling bellydance stagewear, gifts and accessories.
Professional bellydance artists will perform July 7, 8, and 9 at Dance New Amsterdam Theater on lower Broadway. Eva Yaa Asantewaa, blogger at the Infinite Body Blog, called Aszmara, one of 2010's performers, "profoundly soulful and open, a blend of proud gypsy and transported dervish in her generous, ethnic-style dancing."
A description of all workshops and full conference schedule is available at http://www.theatricalbellydance.com, and a selection of 2010's performances can be viewed at http://theatricalbellydance.com/video-gallery/.
"To have a bellydance conference that accentuated compassion, inspiration, and so many profound human concepts was just breathtaking, and very rare," said Karolina, a 2010 participant from San Francisco and a featured performer and presenter for 2011's conference.
In addition to the co-directors, the conference's dance instructor and performer lineup includes Fayzah, Ayshe, Yael Becker, Autumn Ward, Zoe Anwar, David Of Scandinavia, Dalia Carella, Wendy Buonaventura, and the legendary Elena Lentini.Conference registration is available for single day and three-day packages, and individual workshops.
