Albuquerque Theatre Guild announces its summer calendar of exciting plays and musicals, including LES MISERABLES, MARY POPPINS, 1776 and more.

Travelin’ Show - by Jimmy Galloway, directed by Leslie Joy Coleman. In celebration of New Mexico’s Centennial, this show is an entertaining spoof of musicals, comic opera and melodrama by the late Jimmy Galloway, a composer and playwright who wrote about New Mexico history and its unique flavor. Set around a troupe of players in 1900 who take

Singin’ In The Rain - lyrics by Arthur Freed, based on the MGM film, directed by Henry Avery. The dazzling stage adaptation of one of the most celebrated and beloved films of all time! 1920’s Hollywood is the setting for this zany, light-hearted romantic comedy about the early days of sound film, when many a movie studio found itself scrambling to salvage the career of its chipmunk-voiced silent picture star. Incredible music, incredible dancing, incredible fun! The Men Of Mah Jongg – written and directed by Richard Atkins. The play centers around four older friends from NYC struggling with the pitfalls of old age, only to discover the unlikely game of mah jongg as the key to their unbridled happiness. Recent widower Sid Weinberg, a recluse facing ever-growing physical and emotional ills, tries to convince his poker-playing buddies to replace their Friday night game with the game of mah jongg after believing he has received a sign from

Les Misérables: The New 25th Anniversary Production. Cameron Mackintosh presents a brand new 25th anniversary production of Boublil & Schönberg’s legendary musical with glorious new staging and reimagined scenery inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo. Richard III - by William Shakespeare, directed by Peter Kierst. The first of three plays in the annual Will Power! Festival. In the period of English history in which the York dynasty gave way to the Tudors, Richard is a consummate villain, an ugly and disgruntled prince who gains the throne by murdering all family members standing in his way. Richard's final defeat on the fields of Bosworth yields the throne to Henry VII, grandfather of Shakespeare's patron Queen Elizabeth I.

Twelfth Night - by William Shakespeare, directed by Brian Hansen. The second of three plays in the annual Will Power! Festival. In one of Shakespeare's golden comedies and an enduring audience favorite, the festive, gently satiric plot revolves around twin siblings separated by a shipwreck. Mistaken identities lead to gender-bending romance, lots of high jinks and practical jokes, and a bevy of vivid comic characters. 1776 - music and lyrics by Sherman Edwards, directed by Shepard Sobel. This highly entertaining musical based on the events surrounding the signing of the Declaration of Independence focuses on the efforts of the brilliant and witty John Adams to persuade his colleagues to vote for American Independence and to sign the document. It is warm, funny, enlightening and ultimately inspiring to all Americans. The production was nominated for five Tony Awards and won three, including the Tony Award for Best Musical. Virginia Jones and the Curse of Nergal - by David Landau, directed by Eddie Dethlefs and Micah Linford. A mystery spoof of the Hollywood adventure films. The time, 1932. The place, Marlene's Cabaret in Liechtenstein. Wealthy explorer Sir Wallis Burgess is dead, his ashes in an urn he retrieved from the recently discovered tomb of the Mesopotamian God of the Underworld, Nergal. Some say he died of the curse. Others suspect his greedy wife, his mysterious mistress, his
double-crossing partner or the dangerous followers of the Underworld God. It is up to adventuress Virginia Jones to discover which as well as what became of the map of the catacombs and the Eye of Nergal. To do so she must battle wits and skills with her arch nemesis the Baron DeFalcon, as well as their mutual desire for one another.
