THE STUDENT GUIDE TO WRITING Launches Web Series Competition

Following the successful completion of The Student Guide to Writing: Playwriting project and competition, run with the Bush Theatre, Oberon Books, the MA Dramatic Writing at Drama Centre London at Central Saint Martins and Writers at Work Productions, The Student Guide to Writing has launched it's next project.

This year's project and competition will be The Student Guide to Writing: Web Series, focusing on providing access for the first time to the leading training coming out of the industry in terms of writing for online drama, and providing a platform to showcase the most talented student writers in the area.

Partners on The Student Guide to Writing: Web Series include Boundless Theatre, Writers at Work Productions, the MA Dramatic Writing at Drama Centre London at Central Saint Martins, the new company working to improve arts education Art School, and Shelley Productions run by Philip Shelley who runs the Channel 4 screenwriting course.

Jennifer Tuckett, Director of The Student Guide to Writing series, said: "With BBC Three going online last year, it's increasingly important writers know how to write web series and for online drama. It's also a form which lends itself to being made by yourself and collaborators and serving as a calling card, helping writers into careers and as an example of work. We hope the project will provide access to and publish the leading training coming out of the industry on how to write for web series and online drama for the first time, as well as providing a showcase of the most talented student writers in the UK."

The Student Guide to Writing: Web Series will launch on July 5th at London Writers' Week, whose theme this year is to provide access to and showcase the best new ideas going on in terms of writing for and using digital media across theatre, film, television, radio and digital media.

Prior to London Writers' Week, The Student Guide to Writing: Playwriting book has now been published and contains lesson plans written by those leading the way in the playwriting industry who have never published their training before, including Rob Drummer, Artistic Director of Boundless Theatre, Ola Animashawun, founder of The Royal Court Theatre's young writers programme, Fin Kennedy, founder of Schoolwrights and Artistic Director of Tamasha Theatre Company, Steve Winter, co-creator of the Old Vic New Voices 24 Hour Plays and Director of the Kevin Spacey Foundation, Lucy Kerbel, founder of Tonic Theatre, and others. The lesson plans can be used by teachers, students and writers to teach or learn the leading playwriting craft and business skills coming out of the theatre industry for the first time.
