Richard Eyre will direct Nicholas Wright's compelling new play The Last of the Duchess at Hampstead Theatre. According to a report by Baz Bamigboye for Daily Mail, the production will star Sheila Hancock as Maitre Suzanne Blum and Anna Chancellor as Caroline Blackwood. The production runs October 20 through November 26.

Based on Caroline Blackwood's astonishing biographical portrait of the Duchess, the play's subject was soon eclipsed by the formidable attorney Maitre Suzanne Blum. Is this eccentric and energetic French presence determined to protect the Duchess - or perhaps hide unscrupulous manipulation of her money and fame?

The Last Duchess reunites director Richard Eyre with playwright Nicholas Wright. They have previously worked together on the award-winning Vincent in Brixton and the acclaimed production of The Reporter, both seen at the National. They also wrote Changing Stages, the much admired history of twentieth-century British Theatre.
