Photo Flash: THE DOGS OF WAR Opens at the Old Red Lion Theatre

The Dogs of War has recently opened at the Old Red Lion Theatre and has been receiving critical acclaim, award nominations and enjoying full houses. The production has also been chosen as a Fringe Theatre Pick of the week by The Stage ("Tim Foley's empathic and ambitious look at mental health is a disquietingly powerful debut. Foley's kitchen sink drama is peppered with shards of surrealism that poetically hint at the nightmarish reality those suffering from mental illness can live in. Tom O'Brien's beautifully acted production manages the strangeness by treating it as normality which, for this family, it tragically is.")

This new dark comedy follows the Herming family who have recently moved to rural Northern Ireland - also known as the middle of nowhere. The Dad makes stuff in his shed, the Mam pops pills in her armchair, and Johnny the son avoids them both as much as possible. So far, so normal... The team behind the sold out and critically acclaimed production of 'The Fastest Clock in the Universe' have reunited to stage Foley's brave comedic drama in which a family battle with their fear of change, isolation and separation.

The Evening Standard said "Foley gives us wry humour, sharp dialogue and empathy...the narrative tantalises and grips right to the end" and Timeout echoed this with "Tom O'Brien's pacy production uses both the stage and the audience seats inventively...Strong and delightfully weird...brilliantly surreal". The Dogs of War has also received numerous 4 star reviews and looks set to be the hot play this summer!

The producers are dedicated to supporting Rethink Mental Illness charity throughout the run of the play and on May 11th the producers held a gala evening as part of Mental Health Awareness Week raising more than £200 for the charity.
