On Sunday February 19, at the Actor’s Church, Covent Garden, Iris Theatre Company will present Work In Process 3 - an evening of new musical theatre writing with a twist!

Work In Process 3 has paired together a number of budding musical theatre composers and lyricists who have never worked together before on a song-writing collaborators’ “blind date”. After being matched up via “personal ads”, each of the paired song-writing teams were given two months to write a romantic song inspired by Iris Theatre’s summer romantic comedy production, As You Like It.

An esteemed panel of industry leaders will judge the final numbers and decide upon a winner. Already confirmed as judges are Michael Bruce (winner of The Stage-sponsored Notes For the Stage song-writing contest and composer of the acclaimed album Unwritten Songs), Nigel Lilley (Musical Director of such West End shows as Spring Awakening, La Cage Aux Folles and Piaf), musical theatre diva Louise Gold (Pippin, Mamma Mia, Mary Poppins) and Simon Greiff (renowned actor in shows such as Spamalot, Peter Pan and Saturday Night Fever, director of Stand Tall and The Pork Crunch, theatre producer of events including The Music of Scott Allan and Stephanie J. Block In Concert and record producer for SimGRecords of Stiles and Drewe's Soho Cinders, Dougal Irvine’s Acoustic Overtures and the epic new musical  My Land’s Shore).

While the judges deliberate and make their choice of what is the “best” song, the audience will be treated to presentations of songs from the new musical Gutter Press by Fergal O'Mahony and James Richards plus a performance from young singer-songwriter Joe Sterling (whose new musical Roundabout was featured at the Giggin4Good Winter Showcase at the Actor’s Church on Sunday February 5).

Work in process 3 will be the third in a series of shows highlighting new writing, which was launched in March 2011 by Iris Theatre with Workin Process 1, a night of new musical theatre songs hosted by actress Natalie Casey.

Iris Theatre was created in 2007 to produce a production of T.S. Eliot’s Murder in the Cathedral at the world famous St. Paul’s Church in Covent Garden. The success of that production led on to further shows, more success, and a dynamic company which has grown steadily ever since. The company gained full charity status in Oct 2009 with a mission to “support the development of the next generation of professional theatre practitioners across all theatre forms”. With Artistic Director Dan Winder at the helm, Iris Theatre will take a further step in the development of that mission with its uniquely conceived evening on February 19th.
