Following the end of the Civil War, many former slaves, took advantage of The Homestead Act and went West to build new lives for themselves and their families. Many of these homesteaders were black women who overcame tremendous odds to work their own land and make a place for themselves in an often harsh and forbidding environment. We invite you to witness the strength, dignity, mutual respect, and love of some of the African-American female pioneers who settled, together, in the all-black town of Nicodemus, Kansas. The year is 1898.
Please note: some subject matter is not appropriate for children. Parental guidance is advised.
Performances:
Week 1: April 10th and 11th at 8 pm, April 12th at 2 pm
Week 2: April 17th at 8 pm, April 18th at 2 pm and 8 pm, and April 19th at 2 pm
Week 3: April 24th and 25th at 8 pm
Ticket Prices: Cash, check, and major credit cards accepted.
$20 – Adults
$15 – Seniors (62+)

Group rates available.

Bring one non-perishable food item to donate to Bowie Food Bank in exchange for one FREE concession stand item.

Bowie Playhouse located in White Marsh Recreation Park at 16500 White Marsh Park Drive in Bowie, MD 20715. Handicapped parking and theatre facilities available.
