Tony Award® winner Idina Menzel will open the National Symphony Orchestra's 2010-11 Pops season on October 28-30, 2010. Principal Pops Conductor Marvin Hamlisch will conduct, as he did at her sold-out performance at Wolf Trap this past summer. A Date with Idina Menzel takes place on Thursday, October 28 at 7 p.m.; Friday, October 29 at 8 p.m.; and Saturday October 30 at 8 p.m. in the Kennedy Center Concert Hall.

"I am delighted to return to the National Symphony Orchestra so quickly, and especially to open the NSO's Pops Season with Marvin Hamlisch," said Ms. Menzel. "We all worked together for the first time just a few months ago at Wolf Trap, and we had a terrific time. I can't wait to be with Marvin and the NSO again!"

Idina Menzel has a diverse career on the stage, in films, and in music. Ms. Menzel received the 2004 Tony Award® for Best Actress in a Musical and a Drama Desk nomination for her role as Elphaba in Wicked. Ms. Menzel premiered this role in the West End in London in 2006, for which she received the Theatregoers' Choice Award for Best Actress in a Musical. She also received a Tony® nomination for her Broadway debut performance as Maureen in the original production of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Rent. Other theater credits include The Wild Party (Drama Desk nomination), See What I Wanna See (Drama Desk and Drama League nomination), Hair, Aida, and The Vagina Monologues. Ms. Menzel currently appears on the television hit Glee. Other television credits include Private Practice, the concert version of Chess: The Musical, as well as her own concert, which was part of the Mastercard Soundstage series and aired on PBS. Her film credits include Disney's Enchanted, the film version of Rent, and Ask the Dust. A skillful songwriter, Ms. Menzel last year concluded a national tour promoting her album, I Stand.

Marvin Hamlisch, now in his eleventh season as Principal Pops Conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra, is the first person to hold that position with the NSO. As composer, Hamlisch has won virtually every major award that exists: three Oscars®, four Grammys®, four Emmys, a Tony® and three Golden Globe awards; his groundbreaking show, A Chorus Line, received the Pulitzer Prize. Under Hamlisch's leadership, the National Symphony Orchestra Pops season is marked by a wide variety of musical forms - jazz, Broadway musicals, oldies, and more - and a distinctive mixture of major artists and emerging talents.

Upcoming NSO Pops performances for the 2010-2011 season include: Jennifer Holliday in Concert, November 26-27, 2010; Happy Holidays!, December 9-12, 2010; Disney in Concert, February 3-5, 2011; Pink Martini, April 13-16, 2011 and Jon Secada and Tito Puente Jr., May 12-14, 2011.
