Ford's Theatre Society announced that a donation drive during performances of "A Christmas Carol" has raised $90,000 for N Street Village, the most money raised for a local charity since Ford's Theatre began its holiday campaign seven years ago. Over the past seven years, the company of "A Christmas Carol" has raised $551,500 for Washington charities.

Donations were collected November 19-December 27, 2015. In addition to a collection at each curtain call, patrons were encouraged to make donations through the Ford's Theatre Box Office, and members of the "Christmas Carol" company and Ford's Theatre Society staff contributed to the campaign.

Since 2009, "A Christmas Carol" audiences, cast, crew and staff have partnered with Bread for the City, Covenant House Washington, Martha's Table, Miriam's Kitchen, So Others Might Eat (SOME) and Thrive DC to collect funds in the spirit of giving and charity expressed in Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol.

"It is both overwhelming and gratifying to know that with this year's charity drive donations, the company of 'A Christmas Carol' and D.C. audiences have together raised more than half-a-million dollars for those in D.C. who need support the most," said Ford's Theatre Director Paul R. Tetreault. "This year's extraordinary expression of goodwill will help N Street Village make a true difference in the lives of thousands."

"As the temperatures drop, the need for N Street Village-D.C.'s largest provider of housing and critical support services for homeless and low-income women-remains more essential than ever," said N Street Village's Executive Director Schroeder Stribling. "We are profoundly grateful to the patrons, cast and staff of Ford's Theatre for standing with the women of N Street Village this holiday season."
