WEMU Holds Live Pledge Broadcast 3/27 At Michigan Theater

WEMU, Eastern Michigan University's public radio station (89.1 FM) is taking the show on the road with a live pledge drive broadcast from the Michigan Theater! The station will broadcast part of its spring pledge drive live from our beautiful lobby, beginning at 6:00 AM Friday, March 27, with a special edition of its popular film segment, Cinema Chat, featuring our Executive Director, Russ Collins.

Russ and Artrain President, Debra Polich, will join WEMU's David Fair in asking for pledges during the three hours of NPR's Morning Edition, followed by 89.1 Jazz with Linda Yohn, with special guest, Tamara Real from the Arts Alliance, then 89.1 Jazz with Michael Jewett, joined by local author and playwright, OyamO.

Live fundraising continues at the Michigan Saturday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Sunday, Dr. Arwulf will be live with Sunday Best from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Monday through Thursday live broadcasts take place 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM each day.

On Friday, April 3, the live broadcast begins at 6:00 AM with special guests Ken Fischer from the University Musical Society and Mark "Mr. B." Braun. Mr. B will be in and out through the morning and afternoon, performing with guests from his piano summit that evening at the Ark. The pledge drive concludes Saturday, April 4, with a live broadcast that begins at 8:00 AM and ends with Jeremy Baldwin and The Roots Music Project from noon to 2:00 PM.

All other programs will broadcast from WEMU's studios and will include special pledge editions and guests as well. Volunteers, including many members from area businesses, will answer pledge calls at the theater; another crew will take calls at WEMU.

"WEMU's move into the community for part of its spring fundraising is as symbolic as it is real," said WEMU's General Manager, Art Timko. "The station's focus on support of the community has placed its service first and foremost on the streets of our county. This fundraiser simply places the station into the heart of the arts community at the Michigan Theater, both figuratively and literally."

Special guests from the area including musicians, elected officials, and other community figures will join the WEMU hosts each day to help pitch for financial support. Listeners are encouraged to drop by to watch the live broadcasts and pledge their support towards WEMU's $135,000 on air goal.
