Death and rebirth are investigated in the world premiere of Radix Theatre's 21-day smartphone-enabled theatre experience, TBD: LIBERATION THROUGH HEARING, engaging audiences at various locations throughout Vancouver from October 25 to November 14, 2015.

A unique performance event inspired by the Tibetan Book of the Dead, the compelling, and at times witty, TBD will guide 100 adventurous audience members through a metaphorical process of death and rebirth. Every day for three weeks, Radix will connect with participants through unconventional and unexpected ways, transporting them on a deeply personal and moving journey as they imagine their own passage to re-incarnation.

"The Tibetan Book of the Dead is sometimes referred to not only as a guide to dying, but also a guide to living - living without fear, being in the moment, and letting go of attachment," says Radix Theatre's Artistic Producer, Andrew Laurenson. "We explore these themes as each audience member becomes the central character in their own imagined journey through death and the afterlife. Overall, TBD aims to provide a fresh look on life, an appreciation for its beauty, fragility, and brevity."

In line with Radix's mission to explore and create original interdisciplinary and experimental site-specific performance work, this three-week production marks the first time the company has applied smartphone technology. The resulting performance is unlike any project Radix has ever pursued in its 27-year history, engaging its audience through an ever-changing mode of content delivery including text messages, audio and video podcasts, individual encounters in the home, objects delivered through the mail, and live performance installations at various locations around the city.

Audience members must live within the car2go zone, excluding UBC, the area south of 49th Ave., and North Vancouver. Participants must also agree to terms and conditions for TBD prior to purchasing their ticket, available to view online at: brownpapertickets.com. Radix will provide a limited number of smartphones, donated by technology maker LG Electronics Inc., in addition to a select number of discounted tickets for low-income patrons.

Based in Vancouver, Radix Theatre Society has been producing innovative and exciting performance events locally and nationally since 1988, with a focus on interdisciplinary, site-specific works that emphasize experimentation and collaborative creation.

Radix is steered by a team of artistic associates who collectively develop company vision and projects. The company has created many ambitious performances over the years incorporating dynamic physicality, seductive visual design, and provocative content to address such issues as environmental degradation, sexual repression, car culture, and terrorism. Far-ranging performance locations have included an inner-city field, a tour bus, a diner, an underground garage, a downtown office building, a parking lot with audience members in their cars, and IKEA.
